Where does the money trail end?
I pay 5 cents when I purchase a soda, beer, etc.
The store pays 5 cents when they purchase beverages to stock their store.
That money goes to the distributor, who in turn (I assume) is paying the 5 cents to the manufacturer/bottler.
When bottles/cans are redeemed they go to a plant to be processed and reused. I assume its a separate business and/or the bottler paying 5 cents per bottle/can.
So when I buy a beverage, pay the deposit, but throw it away or recycle it (essentially do NOT redeem it for my nickel), where does my nickle end up?
Anyone know or have any ideas?
If it goes to a company, well that doesnt seem fair. It should go to the state wildlife fund or a general environmental agency. I'd feel better about pitching it aside the road.
