Muse, the first sweep after my entry posted took away about twenty votes. They may really be working in a pack. I wonder if it's just contest entries or any story on the NEW list?

I've received two votes in the five days since the Scouries debacle, both from other contestants, one of whom said I was 'pushing the rules a bit'. They were nude, they took part in a parade, they engaged in sex I'm not sure what else I might have done.

It's been my experience that once a story is off the NEW list, a fairly large precentage of additional votes come from other contestants. If so, then the odds are the one in question read the crit and was influenced by Scrouries' thoughts (which I disagree with) concerning the Nude Day criteria.

That said, this seems a bit like having the rules changed after the contest has begun. Once a story is accepted, IMHO, it should be judged on its own merits. However, the "rules" are vague on the issue:

Story must have a Nude Day theme: public nudity, exhibitionism, clothing (or the lack thereof), skinny-dipping, etc. Be creative! Please don't just submit a normal story, throwing in a nude beach setting. That would not be in the spirit of the contest, and readers & voters would probably punish you for your trickiness.

The story only received 530 hits on its first day on the new list, that is where the low voting orginated. Quite why is a mystery - to me. At the end of the first day it had some 19 votes and 4.86, it now has 25 votes and 4.56, that's six votes in 17 days.

Always grateful for a 'good look', but don't tie yourself down with it. It may simply be the title 'Sexual Politics' or the category, I won't deny I'm curious.

Fifty-word

My now traditional 15 x fifty-word piece has just been submitted.

I'm not eligible because of the How-To contest win so I have not tried to write a winner. I have written 15 variations on the theme of the Nude with almost no sex. It should appear in the 'Reviews and Essays' category.

If some of the pieces make people think, I will have succeeded.

Trolls do your worst. I can't win, nor can I compete for the Last Place (tm) Contest.

Thank you, your kindness is appreciated. I've been hanging out around the outskirts and being one of those anonymous readers that leave anonymous comments, but never mean ones. At least I try not to. But when I read about the contest, I decided to try my hand at entering one. My poor entry has barely registered any votes. Is it hard to get votes or do you have to be pretty much a tried and true author here to do so?

It helps to be known, although it can also hinder if you are known for a genre that many readers don't like.

I frequently struggle to get the minimum 25 votes required to be considered for the contest. So do some others, while a few get votes in the hundreds.

There will be shameless begging for votes before the contest ends.

Thanks, I hope you enjoyed it. I've read many of the authors I've seen post on here and some of them are incredibly good. I can't believe they write for a free site, they should be getting paid for their work. I don't think my entry has what it takes to win this contest but it was fun writing it. And I guess that's what counts.
