Any fans out there? What's your favorite series/movie?

I just started Noir today and can hardly tear myself away. I find the characters and plot really grabbed me. (I got the box set on ebay for only $18, and it's not even a bootleg. )

I bought the first disk of Noir a few years ago. I could hardly get through the first episode and gave up on it...

I own a few other series that I really love though.

Robotech - Gets worse every time I see it, but I used to love it through the roof. I still consider it a great series, but I think I outgrew it.

Trigun - A little annoying at times. Vash is such a child, even though he is the oldest character in the show (along with Knives). It's very interesting at times though, and just fun to watch at others.

Cowboy Bebop - Top notch. Always interesting to watch and some of the best characters in Anime. I loved the episode with the mushrooms, and the one with the thing from the fridge, and all of them pretty much :D

Hellsing - Although only half a season, 13 episodes, it was briliant. I wish there were more. Alacard is awesome in his nuttiness, even if Police Girl brings me down from time to time.

Neon Genesis: Evangelion - Hated it through and through. Unfortunately, I bought the biox set without knowing what it was, purely on recommendations. Big mistake...

La Blue Girl - Ah, tentacle monsters. Where would I be without them? ;)

I also have bunches of movies like:
Akira - Very well done. It deserves the cult status it has in the states.

Ninja Scrolls - Fun, though I think I'm outgrowing that one as well.

Wicked City - Need to watch that one again. I hardly remember it.

Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend - Hentai at its beginnings. great fun.

Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Demon Womb - Doesn't start where the first one left off (the apocolypse), and is kind've a seperate movie in that respect, but fun :D First full length Anime movie I ever saw (I saw Robotech as a child). Caught me off gaurd, but I liked it.

Ghost in the Shell - Well done, but not one of my favorites.

Ghost in the Shell 2 - Didn't care for it at all really. It's a poor sequel to the first movie. The first one seemed based in a future reality, but the second seemed to take reality so far into the future that it wasn't a part fo the original reality anymore.

I know I have others (close to 100 on DVD), but I'll be damned if I can remember all the titles right now, and they are so spread across the room, I'm too tired to look them all up

I love anime!

Some of the ones that my husband and I like are:

Visions of Escaflowne
Last Exile
Witch Hunter Robin
Berserk
Princess Mononoke (sp?)
Bleach (thought light, but fun :D)
Eureka 7 (excellent!)
Kiki's Delivery Service (very cute story!)
Spirited Away
Cowboy Beebop (also excellent!)
Paradise Kiss (pretty fun shojo-type anime)
Silent Mobius
Macross, Macross Plus

Hrm... can't think of any others right now, but if I do, I'll throw 'em up here :D

We liked Hellsing too. I really love Saiyuki. Several of my friends who are into anime don't like it because it's comedic. That's what drew me into it. :D

I'm a big Anime fan myself.. I prefer any that have a fantasy element, even if it's in modern time.. Like X-TV, great fantasy element, good story, awesome series.. Or Tokyo Underground, haven't watched much of it, but it seems good so far.

I'll make a more detailed list of my favourites another time.. I'm bad with names.

I see what I can, which isn't a great deal, but I still love Anime.

I own The complete Arc the Lad series, as well as Record of Lodoss War and Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. I also own a couple Slayers Movies, and several of the Pokemon Movies.

I love InuYasha and Z.O.I.D.S., and like most of the Gundam series, especially Gundam Wing. There are so many other series I've seen but haven't really watched all the way. I really have to get caught up.

Pretty much love it all...I gotta admit...From YuGiOh to Beebop, Robotech to Wolf's Rain...

I'm currently much enjoying Naruto on Cartoon Network and have been recording them all on VHS...Yes, I'm a geek, no I don't have a life :D

The only I've never been all that fond of is the various Gundam series...Dunno why, especially since I like Robotech so much (yes it gets worse every time I see it, but it gets more nostalgic too ;) )...

I just blew 100 smacks on buying the complete series of Wolf's Rain

oh god..I like too much anime to even post! *laughs*

there's also the other anime thread here:

the only thing that bugged me was like, those 4 episodes that explain everything at the beginning!

How come? It's odd, I suppose, but the plot flows well and the drama is always great...

seems a bit..like wasted time :p

But, I've been wondering for the longest time, what's the pic in your sig from? She's hot!

I love anime (an manga for that matter). I loved Noir as well. And deathlynx, was one of those episodes #25? I know that one almost got me.
Anyway, some of my favorites are:

From Childhood(though I still love them all)

City Hunter
Dragonball
Saint Seiya
Kimagure Orange Road
Lady Oscar (Rose of Versailles)
Ranma 1/2

Currently

Outlaw Star
Grave of the Fireflies (almost cried at this one too)
Tenchi Muyo
Ah! My Goddess
Wolf's Rain
Onegai Teacher
Cowbob Bebop
Azumanga Daioh
...

I'm really excited about JACON being about a month and a half away. It's always a lot of fun. I've been thinking about starting an anime club for my students, but the red tape is insane.

A sampler of my favourites/regulars

Bleach
Busho Renkin
12 Kingdoms
X-TV
Tengo Tenge (sp)
Elfen Lied
FMA
Samurai 7
Tokyo Underground
Samurai Champloo
DNAngel
DeathNote
Overman King Gainer
Starship Operators (Sci-fi, but fun :) )
Vandread (also sci-fi)
Ranma 1/2 (first anime I saw, funny as hell, almost pissed myself the first few episodes)
Trinity Blood
Naruto

And my favourite of all so far is Shura no Toki, great martial art/fighting anime :)

My almost-18-yr-old son loves it, but I have yet to be able to sit through a full thirty minutes of it.

To each his own, I suppose, but every single show looks like they've been drawn by the same artist (poor overworked guy). It bores me to tears.

Love it! My brother and I actually have Anime watching parties. Yes, I'm a total geek. I also read Manga. :) :p

Surprisingly, I haven't had the chance to get into anime in a serious way, although I spent time in Japan and have other connections to it. But I absolutely worship Hayao Miyazaki. I even let my littlest children stay up and watch "My Neighbor Totoro" when it was shown on Turner Classic Movies, and now they want us to own it, too. (My wife can't stand anime for some reason, however...)

Love anime/manga, from those for the younger set (kids) to adult (soft/hard core) Manga has first place in my heart though as i'm a graphic designer...amazing how the static images convey so much movement. and all those angles, low high, overhead and the whole scene remains consistent. it's wonderful to watch the anime and compare it to the novels. The covers to Vampire Hunter D are fabulously drawn/painted!

The voices often aren't at all how I imagined. like Naruto or Hikaru some how seemed too high. ( just my opinion)

The Japanese show demons and possession in such a fascinating way from the demons in Princess Mononoke to the Hollows in Bleach and in Death Note.

Akira has to be one of my favorite big screen anime.
;)

You mention voices...do you watch the sub or the dub versions?
There is a huge difference bewteen the two and I prefer the former.

Bleach and Death Note are two of my current faves at the moment.

I like listening to the English versions, but find they often lose something in translation. That's why I usually watch the Japanese version with the subtitles first if I can, and then go back and watch the English dubbed version.
