Today I wrote 5,000 words. A complete episode of a series from nothing to the first draft complete. On a phone. On a ferry. I fucking rule.

This thread is started in celebration of this monumental achievement and is going to be a place for other writers to brag when they just get shit done.

In this thread, we don't care about your plot, storyline, characters, or fancy literature conceits. We care about how many words you got down and how you got in the zone.

I was cramming for a deadline on a novel this spring. I figured that I would have to write 1500-2000 words per day to make it. Normally 1000 is a good productive day for me. I'll take even 500. I wrote 3500 in two days, then I had to go to a memorial service out of town. All through the service, the story kept trying to steal my attention. I got home in the evening and got 400-500. I don't think that I would have been able to sleep if I hadn't. Then the next morning I got up and started writing, as if to make up for it. By the evening I had 5000 words, and it was good stuff too. What a wonderful experience. It was so satisfying. I think I wrote about 14000 words that week.

I resolved a gaping plot hole and managed to craft an orgy in 1,000 words that didn't overwhelm with detail and yet kept its level of oomph. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't an oncoming express. I've even managed to do some transitions and make them bearable (I hate transitions from one scene or situation to the next... 'and then they went there' feels so by-the-numbers, and yet to contrive anything more often feels like trying too hard).

20,000 words...on my phone...typing with my penis...on the bus... sitting next to an obese woman...with the shakes...and a companion dog...šŸ˜‰

Over the last two weekends took a story that went on my slush pile a year and a half ago and finished it. 27K words, though about half were already there. Sitting on it till the weekend for final edit and pub.

Random day off work tomorrow thanks to some Saint (or something, but it's usually a Saint), so hopefully I'll be back to brag about getting 5k written and three cakes baked (not a euphemism) this time tomorrow.

This is sort of like a mini NaNoWriMo

Itā€™s amazing when the muse strikes, isnā€™t it? No feeling quite like it

5,000+ words written, chapter 1 done, three cakes baked and an accompanying playlist made.

Yes! Today is a good day!

Now, on to Chapter 2!

(Funny, I thought this was going to be 12,000 words in total for the whole story. Chapter 1 is 17,000! I think Chapter 2 will be quite a bit shorter, but then again...)

I didn't get a ton of words done, but I did get over a creative hump that was making me drag my feet on a sequel story.

I just noticed this thread. My writing has slowed way down the last year between increased responsibility at work making me actually focus on work, and my wife's health issues. These days I often only write on the weekends and even then 3k is a decent day and I used to do that every weeknight.

Last Sunday I binge wrote 11k, it was like the old days where I had energy, focus, and knew where the story was going.

Picked up on an abandoned Christmas story from last year yesterday. This time I think I'm going to finish it!

Me and @Erozetta closed the loop today. Lips of a Witch is entered into the Halloween story competition! It's the longest single instalment I've put up at 65k words but without her story seed, inspiration, Salemification and encouragement I would never have got to the finishing line. Many, many thanks.
It's tough writing two stories at once and I won't be doing it again. I invest in my protagonists a bit too much to be able to switch readily from one to the other.

I'd say it was more de-Britting than overly Salemification. But both were in play.

Super thankful to you as well. That story was dead in the water for me but I really loved those characters and didn't want to see them wither away. You picked up that seed and nurtured those characters and that intro into something sweet and fun, so thank you!

Not a huge daily output, but steady. I've written 9000 words in the past three days. That's the first version of a new E&V story, ready for editing.

Yeah. 5100 words on what could be my very best May/December story. My muse is in fine feather just recently and I'm rolling.
