Okay, so I keep seeing THE question posted. No, this isn't me newbie bashing, but I know it can get a little... irritating at times to see the same questions coming up time and time again.

Now, on other forums I frequent, we have an FAQ at the top in sticky format. Would this work here? Basic questions such as How Long Does It Take For My Story To Appear and SHIT! I Think I've Been Plagerised/Trolled - What Do I Do?

Questions? Comments? Random bumps/trolling?

I voted yes. And we do. It's right there at the top of the page. :D

Y'know, it is, but its not OBVIOUS. Which is exactly my point. Eheheh, we need one with a BIG NEON SIGN.

Good idea!!

Questions like:

How long will it take for my story to be posted?

What is a troll?

What is the minimum age allowed in a story?

I've been bombed, what do I do?

How can I put a link to my stories in my sig?

Anyone think of any others? (That was not one of the questions :D)

Yes, they need to make it bigger. It does say "Please Read", but that doesn't seem to cut it. :D

Or we could just reply to newbs, "Go look at the sticky you lazy virginal thing you." Then of course whoever's in the mood could say, "Welcome, blablabla."

Perdita ;)

p.s. or we can just ignore any of the routine questions.

p.p.s. I was serious. I'm not welcoming newbs anymore, not til I feel they're who they say they are.

Wow, I feel so stupid now. The forums I am usualy on have stickies also. I shouldn't have ever asked that dumbass question. Why did I waste your time? Well anyway, flame me if you'd like, for I came in and asked THE question like a dumb newb. I deserve it anyway... http://graphics.gaiaonline.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sweatdrop.gif

OK, quit it with the whole self-effacing thing. Please. :rose:

And if it was just you, it would not have brought about a thread. Nor would it be referred to as THE question. It's an extremely common occurance.

I thought that was just me.

So annoying. I'm avoiding those folks whom I KNOW are oldies pretending to be newbies.

Gosh mom, thats kinda mean ain't it. I mean coming from you who changes nipple AV's so often that even lil ol me, who was breast fed, hardly recognizes you sometimes.
I think we should just take a vote. All those in favor of letting Just-Legal, who is really cool by the way and will probably thank me for this, handle all newbie questions, put in your vote.
That way, when somebody asks, we could all say "talk to Just-Legal" nicely and be done with it. She could tell everybody how to spell FAQ and other such technical aspects.

Just-Legal for newbie support!!!!!!!

Gee, I wonder if Just-Legal will send me a nice PM thanking me for this brilliant suggestion?

There are newbies and oldbies like jeanne_d_artois and Fag-Ash_Lil.

Oldbies should be open about their ancient status at least in the AH. Jeanne was an experiment that still has some value when I want to write something different. I don't think Fag-Ash Lil can write coherently.

Genuine newbies are welcome but they should lurk for a couple of days before posting to get a feel for the community they are joining. That could avoid embarrassment for them and the AH.

Oldbies who conceal their status (as I did with Jeanne until 1st April) can offend whether intentionally or not.

However if an apparent newbie announces that they are an oldbie there is likely to be a frantic guessing game to work out what their other identity is.

I am grateful for the help I received when I was new to Literotica and to the AH. I remember what it was like to be a newbie.

Og

What Og said.

I know, I know, I muck about as Shocky, but I have been extremely obvious about who she is, since April 1st. I know that was a cruel prank and I am sorry if I upset anyone or made anyone not be as trusting of new members anymore, but it was meant to be a joke. Nothing more, nothing less.

I am a very trusting person and I always accept anyone as who they say they are, unless I've got reason to believe otherwise.

I remember what it was like to be a newbie: FUN! :D

I waded my way in, but I did do as Og suggests first: I lurked for a while and got a feel for the place and its inhabitants. :p

Here's a *hug* and a  for all newbies out there. Please don't be put off, because of the silly escapades of others. Also, don't worry about asking questions, someone will always give a kind answer.

This board's playing up again. My post above shows up, but it didn't get bumped to the top of the threads and my name didn't show up on the main threads as the last person to post. Odd. I wonder if it will this time?

Lisa and JL: you are both sweet young things. I am not. As one of the oldest persons on the AH I lose patience. If I'm ever really mean I will apologize, otherwise I'm usually just frank.

Lisa, please remember you are adopted, my nipples do not belong in your memory bank (though of course you are free to dream).

Helen: I saw your special thread. You're too sweet, but I like you for it.

Perdita

And just to add...

Those who know who I am, know I'm not a newbie.

Just saving my stories from getting bombed by using this alias.

LOL!

You know, I used to worry about that - now I don't care!

But I must confess I chose my name strictly for commercial reasons. The first stories I submitted on Lit were in the BDSM category and I reasoned (correctly, I might add) that I would get more interest with a "subbie" sort of name.

AND because sweetsarah was taken.

And also sweetsarahh.

And for some odd reason, I didn't want to be sarahhh! :D (but I digress.)

Mmmm, pop - you are certainly one of the reasons there is a smile on my face today. :)

OK I guess the game is up.

I'm really Perdita's alter ego. She started me to see if she could pick up girls as a guy.
