Right now I'm soaking the seeds for what is hopefully to be my first Bonsai tree. It's a Japanese Maple, and after it's 8 week long stint in the fringe, I want all the advice I can get.

Are you sure these "seeds" are for your "Bonsai tree"??

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink?!?

I know *all* about "planting"..."seeds" if you really want help!

Hydro is the way of the future dude... :p

I'm sure. This is what I post like when I'm normal and all that.

However, your growing tips could apply, it worked on King of the Hill.

Bonsai trees.... hmmm didn;t the Japanese throw them at American ships in WW2?

I have a Brother-in-Law that grows Bonsai. The only thing I've learned about them is that "Lots of little cuts are better than a few big cuts" (in reference to pruning..).

Other than that I think everything is species specific. (watering, temps, etc..)

YOU! Step away from the tree with the sissors...hands in the air...Freeze!:D

sorry...I got a bonsai tree kit for christmas...mine is growing...I think it is anyway.

Ah, I was just gonna say that!

hmmm, if you are just growing a Japanese Maple from seed, you have a long ways to go before it will be ready to prune and create a Bonsai tree.

You should germinate the seeds, then plant in rich potting soil about 1/2 an inch, keep moist (but not soaked all the time) and then let it grow.

You really cant crop rootball and start to shape the thing until its firmly established.

like a year out at least.

some great books available...

does this make sense?

I dabble in bonsai.

Currently I have three.. a china doll tree, a jade plant and one outside..a lacy leaf maple.

I suggest doing a search online, going to the library or a bookstore for books.

bonsai isn't learned overnight.. I've been at it for over 10 years and I'm still learning.

Starfish does know a lot about it.. I'm not sure if she is around much but you can try emailing or pming her.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have also. I'll help where I can.

All I know is, they don't like extreme temperature changes. My hubby put mine outside to give it some sun on one of the hottest days of the year, and it died within a day.
