Alaskans? Anyone out there?

That's some cool stuff, Del. I hope you don't have to dust it.
And you said all is from the same artist as did the kayak model?

He did all but the soapstone. Someone else did those. I should take new pictures with my better camera. The old pictures don't do the carvings justice.

I clean them with a toothbrush, water and tiny bit of baby shampoo.

I've heard that a little mineral oil is good on for the ivory......but that would attract dust...

Dust makes me sneeze. I'll stick to the baby shampoo. :)

I put in a few miles on Tuesday and Wednesday. Bastards forgot me on Wed, and I had to hang out for another 3 hours for the next plane.

I posted a profile photo, finally.

:)

Love the profile pic!

Thanks, dusky.

It's a postcard day here in Anchorage. About 0°F and bright sun. I'm soaking up some sun and relaxing. The sunlight is dancing across the ice on the inlet. The sunset is going to be awesome, tonight.

It's Iditarod time and the town is crawling with sled dogs and tourists (mostly tourists). It's also Tour of Anchorage time, and a portion of the Tour trail is also used for the "ceremonial" start of the Iditarod, albeit a day earlier.

This year's Tour for me will be a couple hours after the race starts. We'll take a nice leasurely ski and pick up trash left by the race. Anyone need any water bottles? You can usually fill a rucksack with found water bottles.

The reflection of the moonlight on the ice on the inlet was gorgeous this morning.

From the Anchorage Daily News:

Anchorage on track to set record for coldest March

As Alaskans continue to endure frigid weather and blustery wind, March is headed to being one of the coldest on record, weather experts say.

If the cold hangs on, this year could beat 1956 as Anchorage's coldest. Wednesday and Thursday had average temperatures of about 5 degrees. Here are some weather facts and a look at how the cold is affecting life in Homer.

41 DAYS OF FREEZING

Anchorage hasn't recorded a temperature above freezing since Feb. 3. 9.2

DEGREES AVERAGE

Since Feb. 18, the average temperature in Anchorage has been 9.2 degrees.

1956 WAS THE COLDEST

Temperatures during this period averaged 7.2 degrees in 1956 -- the coldest on record.

MORE COLD IN THE FORECAST

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing into early next week.

RECORD TIED WITH 1971

The 9.2-degree average for this time period was also recorded in 1971.

We're about to break the snow record for one winter.

As of Thursday, Juneau was just shy of having the second snowiest year on the books, 182.9 inches recorded at the airport, he said. The current No. 2 season, 1975-76, saw 183.6 inches.

With more snow likely over the next seven to 10 days, Ainsworth said it was highly possible this season could break the all-time record set in 1964-65 when 194.1 inches were recorded.

I just read that Eaglecrest was ranks #1 in the world for snow accumulation this winter and Alyeska was ranked #8. All this is according to "Snocountry", an on-line ski report.

In hockey, the Alaska Aces spanked Bakersfield last night at the Sully, 6-0. First game of the second round of the playoffs. Great fun at the arena last evening. And there was still a sliver of sunlight on the horizon after 10p!

Hi Alaskans! :)

I'm no longer an honorary Alaskan (Splitsville between Dusky and me), but I thought I'd at least say hi. He's around under an alt and he isn't posting as Duskytip anymore, but he commented several weeks ago that he misses not being able to post here.

Hey there!

Definitely sorry to read about a break-up but you and dusky are definitely allowed to post here. There is no sign at the door that says different. When my friends split up (as some do), they don't cease to be my friends.

I hope the world is turning your way!

The breakup was for the best. Additionally, Dusky's wife found out about us and Lit, so he got rid of "Dusky" so she'd stop pestering him. Let's just say that the breakup wasn't pretty at all, so leaving and coming back under a new alt was a good idea for him so he can continue to enjoy Lit and posting here without getting harassed.

The world is turning perfectly for me. In March I was finally able to see the amazing man who'd been standing there, waiting for me to take my eyes off of Dusky long enough to see him. He lives about 237 miles away, and we've already been together twice. I am well and truly blessed in having him. :)

This is my last post at Lit as Dusky, and maybe my last post ever. I think you all really need to know that it was ugly and heart breaking. I hope she is happy and has rationlized everything through. Everything was going along just fine until, I decided that I wanted more then what she was willing to give. Like a marriage and family.

She is truly blessed in that she has someone to play her games with her and not want more out of love. Her last IM to me told me that was it. Don't be fooled, she came here to say these things trying to keep in everyone's good graces.

She makes it seem that it was all my fault, and it may have been to some extent, but she has a way of coloring the truth. Yes the world is turning perfectly for her. Yes, she was able to find a man while still supposedly with me. She even went to meet him while she was "with me" and lied about it. She even flaunted it in my face.

Am I hurting...yes. I have been accused of being controlling and so much more....why, because I loved her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her and she could not do the same. She wanted it all on her turf and would not meet me half way. She finds love too easily and wants all the good without the bad that happens with every relationship. She does not want to work through it.

I for one am glad I found all of this out before I went to her for good. Something kept telling me in the back of my mind that something was not right. I am sure that I will be reviled for this like I have been in the past from her so-called friends, but I don't care anymore.

The break up was the best for her. I really thought she loved me.

Good bye Lit.

Aces hockey again tonight! Playing Bakersfield. Will it be another 6-0 spanking or will Bakerfield put up some numbers?

See all y'all at the sully this evening. I'll be the guy with the beer in one hand.
