The American networks are outraged at Al Jazeera for showing American dead bodies.

I don't understand that.

Who doesn't understand that war produces dead bodies?

I called my cable company and said "Hook me up with Al Jazeera! (or at least the Muslim Rock video channel)"

they hung up on me.

You're an idiot, if you don't understand how horrific that was to show.

I suppose you didn't understand it was wrong of al Jazeera to show Daniel Pearle being beheaded either.

Seriously. I wish I got Al Jazeera.

The CNN guy is saying there's a CNN "domestic" and a CNN international.

Apparently Americans get a special version of the news.

I think the point is that the military would have liked to have told the families first.

Find a Canadian channel or, better yet - a European one. They even showed close ups of the bullet wounds, you'd have loved it.

Article 13 of the Geneva Convention states that "prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity."

I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea to have an "adult" news channel, and another one, so the kiddies can watch too.

Gee...i saw pictures of it on AMERICAN television!!!!

Who's the idiot?

I thought it was a breach of The Geneva Convention to show the POW's? Is is also a breach to show the dead? [honest question, I really don't know.]

It is disgusting, yes...but it's also REALITY. It's what's honestly happening there right now. People are dying. I think so many people don't quite get that. Of course everyone knows in war people are going to die, but the concept isn't fully grasped. Honestly, I'd like it to be shown to the militant pro-war enthusists. Cherry, I don't think Sandia was saying that it wasn't horrific [please correct me Sandia if I'm wrong], but that it's what's going on so why are people so shocked and outraged by it. This is what war results - lots of death and destruction. Why try to sugar coat it?

Sandia,

You are welcome to go visit Iraq and see it all up close and personal. I'm sure we won't miss you. Take care.

I agree with Kitten. It is real and we know people are dying. It's not a pretty sight, but it's reality. If the soldiers down there can live through the reality of it, then I think we can stand seeing a few images on TV.

It's not showing the dead that bothers me so much - we have our means of propaganda and they have theirs (and obviously that's what this video is: reveling in the one kernel of military success in what has otherwise been a disastrous 5 days of fighting. Saddam's in serious danger of losing the loyalty of his military once it becomes apparent that the outcome of the war is determined).

What bothers me is that some reports have suggested what appears to be mutilation (pre or post mortem?) of the bodies and gunshot wounds to the foreheads of at least two of the bodies (suggests execution after capture?).

Are those reports American propaganda? Maybe, but I'd say our media is a tad bit freer.

We'll see, though.

Don't look if you are going to be offended or complain..

i am not agreeing with the way the Al Jazeera News runs its business. But as you can see in the pictures on the following link, they are not just showing the American Soldiers. They are also showing what our bombings are doing to the innocent people of Iraq.

You don't have to be for or against the war to have compassion for ANY innocent person killed.

I heard that there was signs of torture on some of the bodies, that the fatal wounds were up close to the forehead execution style, that the pants were pulled down on the dead bodies as a sign of disrespect or sexual torture before they were executed, that an Iraqi was jumping up with glee next to the dead Americans.

Those men are fathers, husbands, sons...How would YOU like to see your boyfriend, father, brother, or husband's body on TV for all to see horribly mangled from painful torture and murdered in cold blood?

If you still think it’s all right then go execute yourself as well, suicide isn't pretty to look at either and maybe we should show that on TV too?

Everyone should be outraged on behalf of our military families. The family of the female POW found out she had been taken because the video was available on the internet. That is totally and completely inhumane. The visit every military family dreads is to see officers pull up to your door, but to find out and there be no military official there to at least attempt to answer the multitude of questions is worse.

The reality of war is ugly. There is no reason to make that reality even uglier to the families of soldiers who sacrificed their very lives for our country.

American news shows Iraqi losses. It's no different but less graphic.
