The point that she was making is that she has seen many of the same people who have jumped up and down on other people for being an asshole give Lance a pass.

She was pointing out what she saw as hypocrisy. Very few people have actually addressed that point. It's not about consistency of an asshole's posts. It's about the consistency of the posts of people who abide one asshole and take another one to the woodshed with no apparent reason for the difference in behavior.

But in making this supposed point, she attacked Lance - not the people who don't say anything to him.

So, at that point, it became yet another "bash the guy you don't like" thread, and the point was missed - if there was indeed one in the first place.

That's not at all what her original post was about.

Why in the world do many of you put up with the insults and the ridicule that Lance starts on this board? I have watched him demean several posters - specifically about their appearance - and no one has really said a word.

In the past, if someone said something so demeaning about another poster's physical appearance this board went crazy. When Zamdrist used the word portly the thread turned into a frenzy of 100+ posts. When Nasty has stuck his foot in his mouth on numerous occasions, the board went crazy bashing him.

But, in the past month I've watched Lance behave in the exact same way and not a word. No, in fact I've watched women kiss his ass AFTER he has behaved in such a manner.

Why do you let this just simply fly by your head? I find his behavior disgusting, but what I find more revolting is the fact that no one publicly calls him on this bullshit.

That's exactly it. I think it's ridiculous quibbling over how much worse his insulting styles are compared to others who demean people around here on a regular basis. Honestly, if you're that sensitve about your looks, change them - beliefs and personality are not as easy to change.

Okay, I wasn't here for Zamdrist, et. al., and probably have no room to talk. However, I will anyway, because everyone else does, and who am I not to conform?

Lavy can be cruel. Lance can be cruel. But at this time at Lit, most people have adopted an ignore policy for such comments. It's like a desensitization to cruelty or general asshole behavior.

Personally, I feel that Lance and Lavy both have good days and PMS days. I can tell by the thread titles. So, I know when to read and when to resist the urge to click. I also don't think that if someone attacks another poster that a thousand other posters have to come to their defense. We are all adults here and can fight our own battles. If words on this board truly hurt you, and if you can't deal with the shit that people deal out to you, then why come here?

Strength of character is all it takes. I choose to generally be kind to people unless I am attacked and it is something I care to spend my time on. JMJ shows strength of character in his approach to reacting (or not) to Lance.

Lance is often right, too. (JMJ, I'm not referring to this particular instance). So people don't stand up and fight something they agree with very often, even if it is done in bad taste.

Another thing that Lavy and Lance have in common is complaining constantly about how others post. While all of us do this at one time or another, they start entire drama threads about it. I think some people are grateful for the good reading material. Others just don't read the drama.

Basically, all this finger shaking like a matriarchal figure doesn't change Lance, doesn't change Lavy, and doesn't change me. Have your fun, create your drama. Be who you want to be here. If you want to get your panties in a twist, don't be disappointed if people don't come to your defense. Fight your own battles. If people do, lucky you.
