Help an Author to improve his style by answering these questions about your reading tastes.

Do you as a reader prefer stories told in the Third Person where the all knowing narrator can recount everything that is happening.

Or do you find that First Person accounts are more immediate and exciting for you as the reader.

Finally if you enjoy First Person accounts whose version do you prefer, the Doms or the Subs.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you will answer these questions - so that I can write stories that you want to read and will find entertaining. Happy New Year and have a good 2003.

Please vote on the Poll but also tell me more about what you want to read - and do not forget lots of other authors will be taking a peek at what you say - So this may help a lot of us.

Submissive POV.
Mainly because that is what I am and have experience of.

Having said that, I do like my stories to be believable!!!

I usually write from mainly the submissive POV too - again, experience - so that I attempt to make m stories based on reality.

all of these and more

Move the POV around as much as is possible.

dialogue and omniview setting are helpful in scene setting and SOM development

I'm with pierced_boy on the pov issue: Third person is a good tool for exploring the minds of many characters within a single story. Using indirect discourse as well as dialogue and description helps to fit multiple perspectives into one's work.

To me, a story is a story.

I dont care about who's point of view it is in.

As long as it is written well, and heck,to me it doesnt have to be believeable,I will read it.

True Nature

I am Domme by nature and in r/t experience, however I like to read stories from all points of view. This helps me gain a greater perspective on where my subs are coming from, and also helps me write from a submissive point of view when I feel so inclined.

Erotica is erotica, BDSM or vanilla, 1st 2nd or 3rd POV. I'll take it all!

I suppose though that a good excersise in writing would be to write what you do not know firsthand, which is part of the reason that I occassionally write from a submissive POV...to sharpen my Domme skills and as well as my writing skills.

Hope this helps.

You forgot "Other"! :)

Seriously, first person or third person doesn't matter to me, but it really depends on the story being told, wouldn't you agree? Some stories just sound better in first person than third person or vice versa.

As to Dom or sub's point of view? I relate more to submissives, personally, so if it were first person I would go with submissive. If the story were in third person, it wouldn't matter as both points of view would probably be explored.

Good luck!

I'm with the "if it's well written, I like it" bunch here.

POV never really matters to me. My favorite to read are real life accounts of scenes, and I like those in first person only because it tells me a lot about the author, whereas fiction doesn't really always tell you a lot about the author. Reading an author talk about their own experience and feelings in 3rd person seems strange to me, but other than that, I have no preference.

"well written" to me does not always mean proper this and proper that...I've read a lot of articles lately on "proper" styles and techniques, and I tell you, all the stories I read that have high marks for being 'well written' in the sense of following good writing rules...have absolutly zero depth and feeling to them.

So while basic punctuation and whatnot goes a long way, so does a little freedom in what is written. Some of the best stories I've ever read wouldn't win any awards for English perfection, but the raw edge of emotion they contain well make up for it.

I have to say a big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to respond to my question and poll.:D

As you can see looking at the poll results and the written responses third party - the omnipotent "god's eye view" would appear to be the pov of choice. This really goes to confirm the accepted wisdom expressed in the Author's Hangout and any text book on writing.

Thank you and do keep on giving your views - if you are a reader look upon this as a market research exercise. Writers need to know what readers want.
