What if coalition forces find no WMD's?

Since the start of millitary action I've pretty much stayed out of the frey in regards to war discussions. I figured at that point the debate was moot. However in my private thoughts the question remains what will happen if none are found. Was the fact, in this worse case scenario for Bush and Blair, the regime in Iraq so oppressive be enough to keep a firestorm at bay?

I am not, for the likes of busybody, saying I hope this is the case. Sad that one has to put in a legal disclaimer when asking a simple question to keep the savages at arms length.

Didn't they already find some canisters that were suspicious and being tested. I thought some of the initial field tests said they were either chemical or biological weapons.

bb...good question. For many, the WMD threat was the justification for the invasion...including myself. If the only goal was to liberate Iraq, perhaps I would've had a different stance.

I still feel pretty certain they will find chemical and/or biological agents once they can talk to the scientist and people involved in these programs. But even if they do find something, you know full well a great deal of the world will cry out they were planted...right?

the tests have been inconclusive. Even Centcom admits their field test equipment is not very accurate, which one can understand.

Iraq sent it to Syria......

Which is our next stop!

But not the final stop.

VP Cheney has said that the new era is not one of deterrnce and containment anymore.

NKorea, Syria and Iran.......

Soon to topple.

Thank G-D we dont have Clinton or Gore

agreed gunner. While not completely out of the realm of the possible, extremely highly unlikely.

That sort of thing has happened heaps of times. The most recent that I read of turned out to be pesticides. It was bad enough that the soldiers who found the stuff became ill.

It was within the last couple of days but I didn't hear anything more about it. I do remember hearing that several soldiers got rashes from it though. Thanks.

I would have thought the image of US soldiers becoming ill, from anything, would delight you. What did the japanese tests reveal as to the real composition of the suspected chemicals ??

Point #1 Pesticides are in fact nerve agents, just not on a scale that would be feasable to use on a large number of people. So I think by definition, not a WMD.

Point #2 WMD will be found. It's just a matter of if they were there originally or not, and if they weren't, you won't be able to tell anyway. I'm pretty sure if they're going to be planted, they'll be planted "well".

From reading that I can only assume that you will never believe that Iraq actually had them before the war. What would it take to convince you that they actually were making WMD?

They might even find the ones that Rumsfeld sold them in the eighties...

Uh... I guess I didn't make myself clear. Actually I'm sure they do/did have them - were making them before the war. My point was, if they are not *found* by the troops, (because they are either buried or distributed to other countries or the like) I'm sure some will be planted.

I wish I had his bussiness sense, just glad he isn't my father though.

It's kind of a moot point now, isn't it BBW? With the stories coming out about the atrocities comitted against children and women, and with Iraqis themselves making heros of the soldiers and GW, who cares? Do you think those Iraqis dancing in the street haqve any concern about WMD? I think all they might care about is that they will never again have to watch their wife or daughter raped or tortured. It will be a long road for them and for us but as the stories come out, I see that it might be more likely that other Arab countries citizens will demand freedom than not. How would Syrian citizens react now if they find out that their leaders have allowed Saddam to bring those weapons into Syria?

I don't know about Jimmy selling WMD, but we ALL know who sold Saddam brewski.
