I think the idea of having the lunar landing sites designated as a World Heritage Site has some merit. That is at some point in the future when people are actually going to the Moon again. Right now it seems a bit silly, about as useful as creating a National Park on the surface of the Sun.

A month ago called, they want their news back.

The article is dated 7/26. The bill was introduced on 7/8, so yes, a month old. But given the subject matter I really doubt too many people here are aware of the story. I mean, is this a repeat thread or are you just being pissy?

I believe it's been brought up a time or two on here.

Antarctica is classed as a world heritage site, it's about the only thing that has stopped the oil companies from totally raping it.

You can't touch anything there. They are very very very serious about keeping it pristine. Peeing in the snow would cause an international incident.
When you go ashore you're told to stand and look and not touch a fucking thing.

Kim Stanley Robinson spent some time there as writer in residence and discusses the whole pristine thing. It turned him into a pretty heavy duty campaigner to keep it as is.

Pissy is her middle name.

I only responded to this in that way because I wrote a paper for an Environmental class I took a couple of years back:cool:.

And at South Pole Station, they just pump shit into the ice and let it freeze.

I imagine some Congressman taking the floor and making the following speech:

"My fellow Representatives, it is a great honor to add my vote in order to pass this landmark legislation to declare the moon landing sites as historical parks. And now, I will masturbate so that this morning won't be a complete waste of time."
