Earlier this year, the cost of debt interest payments alone surpassed the cost of America’s defense spending.
Interest payments on the US national debt are now roughly the same as the bloated Defense budget (around a trillion a year).
That’s a metric shit ton of money that could be used in better ways.
Republicans try to blame Democrats for the ballooning national debt, but of course Reagan, Bush and Trump hugely increased the debt.
Trump’s tax plans would add to the problem:
Trump has repeatedly promised to extend the tax cuts across the board. That could add between $4 trillion and $5 trillion if not offset, estimates the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
And that’s without considering the next round of tax cuts Trump has promised corporations and the rich.
Both political parties are ignoring the impact of out-of-control interest payments will have on future budgets.
