It's your board, folks. If you want a board filled with mindless hateful crap, then respond to mindless hateful crap posts. Keep them all on the front page. Bump all the intelligent, interesting stuff off so you can argue with some troll. But if you want an intelligent, fun, sexy board, ignore the shit and keep the good discussions alive.

I'm not telling you what to do. It's your board. Your actions directly affect it. You make the call.

There have been many threads about how to deal with trolls in general and specific twits (most of whom are on my ignore list.)

Laurel's statement above say it all, though and she should make this a "sticky" everytime some twit succedds in disrupting the board.

Good intentions. And we should all strive to remember that.

Unfortunately, the trolls pander to the basest impulses of humanity.

Resist, people! Be better than that.

A post that says only "this person is on your ignore list" is VERY easy to scroll past without giving in to righteous indignation. :D It also serves as a very precise precis of Yayati's page long rants.;)

Laurel is a keggar full of venerable wisdom...

I was trying to be learned and profound, WH. LOL Anyway, my scroll button gets a workout. Or I give up and go read another thread.

I gave up playing with trolls after some wise people helped me get a little perspective. It was fun kicking them around, but it's still a filthy habit, and stinks up the board. I have better things to do, and nothing you could say makes a troll suffer like being ignored.

Absolutely right! Thanks WH for bringing that back up and reminding people.

After 10 years online I can vouch for the effectiveness of this. No one likes to talk to themselves - if you ignore the assholes they'll go find someone else to pester. I've seen it happen over and over again.

There is no one-upping a troll... there is no such thing as being wittier. You're not proving anything other than the fact that they can get to you. All they want is attention - good, bad, or otherwise - it doesn't matter. If you respond to them you give them what they want - they win. You lose.

The advice to ignore trolls is some of the best that can be given. If people would ignore them the board would a much funner place to be.

Just my two cents

*sigh* I try, I really do.
Someone please next time I go off and play with a troll KICK me!

Yep, that's good advice! Just ignore the Trolls, no point in arguing with them.

Yo-yo-twit is still here?

Damn, this ignore function is the absolute best!!!!

There's an ignore feature?

This one's got all the answers...

:D

The ignore feature is great. It works well for those people who just rub you the wrong way, for whatever reason.

I sure would like to put "Unregistered" on Ignore. Would someone please explain why this can't be done?

Trolls!? Lit has trolls? . . .

Damn! Do I miss everything? Or are you saying they're not worth missing?

Without access to the database, this is only a SWAG:

To save space and access time, the Ignore lists are stored as the userid number instead of the name -- which has to be compared character by character with each poster's name. Since "Unregistered" can't be found in the database it has no userid number so it can't be added to the list.

I never respond to trolls.
Nor do I put the known trolls (i.e. those not unregistered) on ignore.
Trolls are worthless pieces of crap, but sometimes they are entertaining.
The times are few, I grant you that, but the occasion has come about in the past.

May seem like a silly question but what or who is a Troll and a Yayati?

Please remember- no wisecracks.I just might take you seriously
