A "FAIR TAX" thread so U_D can "tear me to shreds..."

It's also a great topic when it comes to understanding who defends the status quo and identifies with class envy policies, be it from the right or the left.

Well, sure, if people were saying things like "the current system works great", or "I hate the rich", you could do that.

To infer those things from comments like "there are some practical problems with the assumptions used by the advocates", or "the expected shift in tax burden to the middle class is being ignored or even denied", is a great way to figure out who has problems with reading comprehension.

You do realize that the number of sponsors of this bill grows with each Congress?

You keep coming up with class arguments such as the middle class will bear the brunt of this tax.

WELL

HELLOOO!!!

The middle class bears the brunt of ALL taxation...

*laugh*

Yes, you can live tax free, as long as you never buy another *new* item and shop at a second hand store or buy exclusively used items.. As long as you never buy any of the things that are not currently subjected to sales tax.. As long as you never ever want to live anywhere but below your means.. You're right, you will live tax-free...

Do you know how many people from the poor to the elderly already live that way AND pay the "inclusive" FairTax?

That's one of our charitable contributions to the community, helping to run the thrift store for the local no-kill animal rescue facility.

Let's see, there's 5 sponsors in the Senate, and four other supporters. 16 opposed. That doesn't seem like a big number to me, but maybe it was four before.

All the sponsors in both houses are Republicans.

You realize your response on the tax burden shift doesn't counter the argument, right? Even if the middle class is bearing the brunt of all taxation, it doesn't mean they want to pay more taxes. And, as I've said a few times before and you ignore, to try to sell a program on the basis of "putting more money in people's pocket" when it's expected to do the opposite, is, well, fraud. There's really no other word for it.

There are 60. A already provided the link.

It does "put more money in your pocket."

It makes your net equal your gross. Try spinning that away...

LOL...that's too easy.

Part of the idea here is that companies reduce the amount they keep from each sale in order to absorb the cost of the 23% inclusive tax without raising prices overall, right? That's my understanding of what you think will happen.

If employers are having to get by with less after-tax income, the offset comes because they don't have to withhold payroll and income taxes, yes? So that's a saving to the employer.

But since they are not withholding these, they also can't give them to the employees, or they would be faced with both less after-tax income and the same compensation costs, and they would go broke.

So...they will reduce compensation by the amount of the withholdings, and...

yes, net = gross, but only because gross will be reduced to the current net.

If it weren't for that goddamned Zapruder guy making a super-8 movie...

Hell. It would have been case closed.
