A continent of trash floating in the Pacific Ocean

The articles I saw called it a continent. I assume they are using the term figuratively. Giant mass of trash floating in the ocean is still pretty bad.

For reference, Australia the continent has about the same area as fifteen Spains.

Christ on a cracker. I even present you with the numbers. Do I need to draw you a fucking Venn diagram?
3-4 spains is dead on. While 5-7 is a bit larger.

Dude...

...'dead on" and "a bit"?

"Alaska" comprises 586,412 square miles...

..."double Texas" encompasses 537,640 square miles (268,820 x 2)

"3 Spains" = 586,050 (195,350 x 3).

Those are, indeed, comparable...

...while "4-7 Spains" is complete hyperbole: your "dead on" (4 Spains) of 33% larger than the area being offered, to your "a bit larger" (7 Spains) equating to over 100% larger than what's being discussed.

1. Did I start the thread? Ask renard. I'm calling bullshit on your bullshit list of mixed references.

You need go no further for "bullshit" than your "dead on" and "a bit larger" above...

2. What size is a continent?

Australia is the smallest continent @ 2,967,909 square miles...

...or roughly 5 "Alaska"s, or 5 "double Texas", or 5 " 3 Spains".

Here's the start of the OP piece again, just so you can retrace:

The continent of trash

A French scientific expedition will depart the second of May to analyze and explore a huge mass of plastic trash, accumulated over decades in the Pacific Ocean. This island of plastic called “The Seventh Continent” is very very big, made up all kinds of waste dumped by the human being at sea, as small plastic bottles, fishing nets, buoys, etc.. It have between an extension similar to 3 to 7 Spains, and its growing!

So, once more...

...please tell us with any credible accuracy how large this "mass", "island", "continent" of plastic is?

I've never seen anyone more desperate for a response, any response.

Are there any conservatives anywhere who actually try to conserve anything?

Capital.

This is a silly, silly thing to say; a variation on they want dirty water, dirty air, starving children and grandma off the cliff just because they believe that cash money is not an infinite resource.

oops... looks like there wasn't nearly as much plastic as reported.

"derp!"

If I were President, we would remove all troops from the Middle East immediately and start the creation of an environmental army to deal with these challenges around the world. Neither left nor right has the guts to deal with real problems. Its easier to create pretend boogey men than deal with real issues.

"The countryside is absolutely pristine! Don't mind the dead people; they'll biodegrade in time."

Brilliant.

If it were more solidified we could send all the extremist right wingers there and they can have their own little government-less nation.

The options are not the behemoth we have now or anarchy.

Anarchists tend to be lefties, in any case.
