If somebody sent you a "zip" file, would either you or your computer know what to do with it?

I have Zip Magic installed on my computer, it handles zip files automatically, don't have to even think about it. Shortcuts are added anywhere you would need to save/send a zip file also.

I'm sota someplace between "no problem" and "watchoo talkin about Harold".

I know what a zip file is and I've downloaded a few but I have never sent one and I'm not sure how to make one either.

I'm a "watchoo talkin' about Harold" kinda guy.
I don't know shit about computers.

All I know about them is sometimes I feel like throwing the damn thing out the window.

Nah, you're purely "no problem" as far as the question I asked. :p

Creating one is pretty simple. Go to the file menu and select "NEW," and name the new file. Then start adding files until you've got everything you want archived.

I have to agree with Mortto, I spend most of my time wanting to throw my computer out the window.I have performed "Illegal Operations" so many times I'm ready to arrest myself. Thank goodness WH is around to answer my questions, and btw WH, your suggestion of safe mode worked, Thanks:D

it's easy to unzip a file it's just sending a zip file I haven't tried to do.

if i send a zip i usualy make it self extracting to save the hassel of compatability ( or lack of ) with their zip program.

Me too MinkSoul.
I built my computer. I got it hooked up for Windows and Linux, just to play around a bit.
I love computers!
My daddy used to be in computers!
My toddler already has her own computer!
I have an old Apple IIGS waiting for her, and a toaster Mac, and several old DOS machines. I am ready!

but I haven't zipped a file in ages!

Not since I put in the rewritable CD drive.

Wachoo talkin bout Harold?

I know what a zip file is but, since I have a webtv, I don't have to worry about that kind of stuff.

Every time someone sends me a zip file, I spend a half an hour guessing what to open it with. Just insert it, file transfer, attach it, anything but that damn zip please.

Double clicking on the file doesn't open it?

If you do have a program that can uzip files, then it should be associated wwith the .zip file type and open it with a double click.

For those who don't know what zip files are:

ZIP is the normal extension for a "compressed archive file" -- a file which contains several other files which are compressed to save disk space and/or transfer time.

A shareware program to manage them and more about compressed archives can be found at www.pkware.com, homepage of the company that developed the technology back when 360K was a big disk.

I think i know what a zip file is, but I've never received or sent one. Not even sure if I have Winzip (or whatever) on my pc.

When I double click it, a I get a pop up window asking "open with?". It gives me many chioces, none of which seem to work. Maybe I don't have the program to open it, that would explain alot. :)

1) yes I can open a zip file
2) yes I know how to send a zip file

I've sent them and recieved them. No problem.

(And thanks, Harold, for your help earlier - much earlier - today. Our brains were fried from way too much of everything and not enough of other things; we just couldn't figure out how to do all that chopping and changing. I've figured it out now and won't be bugging you about that particular little thing again. You were nice to help.)

mine unzips when I sign off.. I'm sure there is a way without, but don't often get them anyway

Have PKzip.exe v1.04,v2.4, XTREE PRO(which contains all the unzip utilities) Also WINZIP.

Since I have a DOS partition for AUTO-CAD I do use the Zip alot.
