It has been bugging me since i was 9 years old. I found a movie in my house, i still have it(it's Salò(the one from 1975)) I never had guts to watch it ever since I've learned of the premise.
I found there was a book, i read what it was about but never had guts to read the actual book.
Marquis Sade, he was a crazy dude. I've seen that film about him, the one that is pretty big production. Never got around to reading his work, but i read stuff about his life. Crazy dude he is.
The movie is still roaming around.

I read a little on wiki. I have no desire to read the book or see the movie.

Terrible movie, book is good for historical purposes only. Otherwise it's a waste of ink. And it's Sodom not sodomy.

To be fair to de Sade, though, it's really an unfinished first draft.

Sade wrote The 120 Days of Sodom in the space of thirty-seven days in 1785 while he was imprisoned in the Bastille. Being short of writing materials and fearing confiscation, he wrote it in tiny writing on a continuous, twelve-metre long roll of paper. When the Bastille was stormed and looted on July 14, 1789 during the height of the French Revolution, Sade believed the work was lost forever and later wrote that he "wept tears of blood" over its loss.

However, the long roll of paper on which it was written was later found hidden in his cell, having escaped the attentions of the looters. It was first published in 1904 by the Berlin psychiatrist Iwan Bloch (who used a pseudonym, "Dr. Eugen Dühren", to avoid controversy). It was not until the latter half of the 20th century that it became more widely available in countries such as United Kingdom, the United States and France. The original manuscript is currently located in the Bibliotheca Bodmeriana, Geneva, Switzerland.

As for the movie:

Oft-regarded as the single most vile, most depraved, most despicable, most infamous and most controversial film of all time, Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom), also called simply Salò, is a 1975 Italian film of vague genre (straddling drama, horror, war, arthouse, Nazisploitation and emetic) written and directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Based on the novel The 120 Days of Sodom, one of the most infamous works by the Marquis de Sade, which many critics attest is even nastier than the film, the film transplants the book's plot from the setting of 18th Century France to the Nazi puppet-state of the Italian Social Republic (also called Salò) in northern Italy in 1944 during World War II. Four fascist libertines known as the Duke, the Bishop, the Magistrate and the President, knowing that the allies will soon overcome Germany thereby dissolving their power, decide to have one last hoorah by having their private army abduct eighteen attractive teenagers (9 boys and 9 girls) from the local countryside and bring them to a deserted villa. From there, the fun begins with the hapless youths being subjected to 120 days of physical, mental and sexual torture.

The film is divided into four chapters called the Anteinferno, the Circle of Manias, the Circle of Shit and the Circle of Blood (with the Anteinferno being the aforementioned opening). Accompanying the four libertines are four middle-aged prostitutes conscripted from local brothels. At the start of each of the remaining three chapters, one of the prostitutes tells a story revolving around some form of sexual perversion (for example, at the start of the Circle of Shit the prostitute tells a story about coprophilia); the teenagers are then subjected to tortures based on that story. In the Circle of Manias they are subjected to anal rapes; forced to give handjobs; and a boy and girl are forced to marry but are then not allowed to consummate with the libertines coming over and raping them instead; and they are stripped, put in collars and leashes, and forced to act like dogs and eat bread embedded with nails. In the Circle of Shit, (in one of the most infamous scenes in the movie) the Duke defecates on the floor, a girl is stripped, and she is forced to crawl over and eat it with a spoon. Later, in an even more infamous scene the teens are fed their cooked previous week's excretions at a banquet. Amidst these acts those teens who break the libertines' rules have their names marked in a book, to be ultimately punished in a manner unknown to them...

In the final chapter, the Circle of Blood, the teens who had their names marked in the book are further marked with blue ribbons. The teens who have not broken the rules and have been seduced by the libertines to The Dark Side accompany them upstairs where they watch as, down below in the courtyard, the uncorrupted are brutally tortured and executed via having their nipples and genitals burned, their tongues cut out, their eyes gouged out; hanged, scalped, raped, flogged and branded. The closing shot is of two of the guards casually dancing a tango together...

To this day, debate rages amongst critics and film classification organizations as to whether the film is nothing more than exploitative, voyeuristic trash bordering on child porn or a legitimate piece of art and satire regarding fascism. Opinions vary. A melting pot of many aspects of Pier Paolo Pasolini's life; Italian Fascism, homosexuality, Roman Catholicism; unlike David Lynch he never made any secret of what the film's intention as a piece of art was; a Take That to the entire edifice of fascism, an Orwellian warning of corruption in governments, a demonstration of both mankind's inherent evil and selfishness (one scene has a series of rulebreaking victims telling on other rulebreakers when caught to try and avoid punishment; i.e... two girls engaged in lesbianism tell on a boy sneaking off to have sex with the black maid) and inherent complacency (only on two far-removed occasions do any of the victims make any attempt to escape; for the most part they just accept their treatment). There are also specific meanings attributed to more specific scenes; the coprophilic scenes for example were said by Pasolini to be a Take That to the fast-food industry. More than a few people regard the film as Pasolini's Take That to the entire human race.

The film was Pasolini's last. Shortly before its release he was murdered by being run down with his own car. Some say he was murdered due to the content of this film, some say it was due to political reasons, some say it was by a teenage male prostitute whom Pasolini had attempted to hit on. We may never know the truth.

All rather bland, tame stuff by Lit standards, I know.

Several years ago a few friends and I looked up some list of "Most fucked up films ever made" had one guy's wife order the top 10 and mail them to us in Afghanistan.

This one repeatedly made high marks on the list but what a let down. Movie is fucking lame...except the last like 10 min of torture porn.

If your looking for fucked up shock flicks that are worth a watch...

Visitor Q
Cannibal Holocaust (don't bother with II/III)
Irreversible
Henry: Portriat of a Serial Killer (true story of a famous US psycotic torture/rape/killer)
Old Boy
Ichi the Killer
Antichrist
Flowers of Flesh and Blood
Dead Girl
Men Behind the Sun (True story based on Japan's famus for WWII horror, Unit 731)
Funny Games
Happiness
Thriller
Martyrs

I promise...that list is more than enough to bend your mind for a good while.

I actually own the book.

A few years ago I bought a personal library which contained every erotic book written back when eroticism was an intellectual pursuit, and The 120 Days of Sodom was among them. I didn't find anything erotic about it. There are descriptions of the various standard floggings and other tortures, but near the end, it degrades to pulling teeth and burning people alive in charcoal pits.

It's not 120 days, either.

Not a fan of Antichrist at all but it's definitely fucked up.
I actually liked Martyrs.
Henry is disturbing as all hell. I've watched it once years ago and it left a mark that is still there. An incredible movie really.
Have never been able to finish Cannibal Holocaust but not because of the subject matter. I lose interest in it pretty quickly because I get bored.

Saw the damn thing somewhere around ~1980. When leaving the theater, we debated trying to find paper bags to put over our heads. Nobody was able to look anybody else in the eye. We felt filthy.

I simply cannot wrap my head around anyone WANTING to read or see books and films like this.
I realise life isn't all fluffy ducklings, but stuff like this can't be unread or unseen. It stays in your head somewhere.

Oh yea some of those are terrible flicks but I added them to the list b/c they were simply so graphic/twisted you can't have a "fucked up film" list without them.

I agree about Henry the true story ones hit you differently...you should check out men behind the sun, it's kinda old and cheesy but the subject content is just un fucking real...absolutely nightmarish what the Japanese scientist did to people. It became a morbid subject of interest for me..I plan to visit the place (they have a memorial at the site) where all that sick shit happened, and camp the suicide forest while I'm there.

All part of my "Totally fucked places to go check out" list...

Ol' John Waters has made a very good living out of shocking people and violating social taboos.

Sometimes we needed a good comedy to lighten the mood.

I don't think I've ever seen an excessively fucked up or twisted movie, and I don't think that I really want to. I knew this guy in university who was sort of a friend but also a bit of a bastard, and he would always trick me with gross/gory shock pics and videos, and I hated them - I found some of those things really disturbing.

Grossest movie I've ever seen was Feed. It was about some force/erotic-feeding murder guy and there was a woman who kept calling herself his "jelly baby" and I think I forced myself to suppress a lot of the rest because it was suuuuper disgusting. Did not like.

I am well aware that there are gruesome experiences that some people go through.... hell, I worked a year with a funeral parlour as a 'pickup' person.
What I don't get is someone voluntarily watching/reading things that are so depraved and disturbing.

I bet most people who have seen it wish they hadn't.

Read about it on wiki. It's pedo territory.

Peeling skin from babies. Ripping off fingers and worse.

I have enough nightmares, thank you!
