Another blast last night in Jerusalem. I can't comprehend what it's like to live in Israel. Or Northern Ireland. Or Pakistan. Or India. Or Europe, for that matter.

I can't tell if our isolation by two oceans and two peaceful continental neighbors is a blessing of safety, or a curse of complacency. I live in a part of the world where I could drive up to maybe 10,000 miles in any direction, and the worst thing that would probably happen to me is that I might have to listen to a Mariachi band or watch hockey.

And before anyone goes off into thread-tangent-hell, yeah, I know there are bad guys in the Western Hemisphere. We've got our hate groups and Al Queda cells and gangs and telemarketers, but, honestly, there's no comparison to what we're going through, and what they're going through.

10,000 miles of war-free terra firma for the last 150 years. Are we just lucky? Or do we really seem to know what we're doing?

You're absolutely right, Dixon, there is no comparison between how we live and how they live. I would even go so far as to say that there isn't any comparison between the attacks we suffered and the attacks they've been suffering for thousands of years.

I think Dixon Carter Lee is right that in some respects we have been lucky. What would have happened to the United States if we had not discovered the BOMB before someone else did? Things may have turned out mighty differently. I am worried for the future for my kids because we have almost always been the biggest kid on the block and other countries seem to want to knock us off. We live in interesting times , but I think I would rather live here and become complacent than live there and live in constant fear of my life.
