🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

I have been doing more weights in recent years than I ever did when younger. I don’t have a body type built for bulk weight but I’ve definitely learned that weights is a crucial part of my routine now and less cardio.
Lifting as you age has it's great benefits with increasing bone density, helping to strengthen joints, maintaining muscle mass, etc. So def keep doing your thing with lifting. As for cardio, not a fan, but def has it's place in maintaining heart/brain health. Keep at it!

I am already pretty grumpy. 😂

Oh.. me too.. And probably even a bit judgy, - I am just waiting for the age that allows me to go all out. 😉

Love these! I've never tried an Injinji long pair, as it rarely gets that cold in my neck of the woods. Do they stay up well? I always find that to be an issue with high socks.

Not yet tried running.. talking about silly injuries; my jumper's knee is acting up.

But, I usually only use long socks in the winter/early spring, and then I am most likely wearing compression tights as well, that often makes a difference.
Though.. with this crazy weather, I have been mostly running in shorts up until now.

They do feel rather loose around my legs, so that is definitely a concern of mine as well (whether they will stay up well or not).

... I will get back on this, when my knees allow me to run! 😅

Happy feet

Yes! 👣

Do you all have a day of the week that are more difficult than others? Wednesdays are mine. Bleh
Generally Mondays or Tuesdays are my harder cardio or HIIT style workouts which I am less of a fan of. 🗓️
Thursdays are mine. I typically have a long workday, then practice at night. I'm drained by the time I'm home. 😴

I found this online. The challenge is over but I'm starting this on my own today. Day 1 ✅.
That's some serious squatting Sally. But I bet it's perfect for Derby legs. 🦵
Not a specific day, they usually come randomly.

I notice if I dread a day before it happens, it's almost impossible to have a great day. We already determined our day, by our outlook. Just speaking for me only.
Outlook is everything! I'm with you on this. I can't control much in life but my attitude is one of the areas I can control. 😃

I am so happy to come across this thread. It’s so nice to see so many people trying to keep themselves in shape.

Like Mizz and Positive I have been trying to keep myself up in shape and fighting the urge to not eat like shit and injure myself in the gym and stay somewhat on track - this wasn’t the case for the last few years when I weighed a LOT more (like 70 lbs over). Of course I had life events to blame but I was obese and I couldn’t believe the photos i was in.

I have since lost all 70 lbs and now I am starting to make a regular gym schedule. At 52 I am learning how to do things I couldn’t do when I was in my 20s. I lost power/strength but I am seeing vascularity and definition I never had in my 20s.

Not sure about you guys but I tend to gravitate toward what is easy to do - so I’ll run/walk 6-8 miles on the treadmill because it is something I’m good at but I’ll neglect other areas because they’re hard. It’s a balance I have to work on.

I will watch this thread. Thank you having it.

Any tips here would be greatly appreciated or simply a reminder to suck it up Buttercup and keep going.
For me it's just remembering the end goal. Ya, I'm not 25 anymore, but that doesn't mean I can't be faster than I was then or stronger or anything really. The incremental steps on how to get there may be smaller, making it take longer, but that doesn't mean you can't get there. Lots of people are their best in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and even beyond.

Something I’ve integrated this year is a couple days each week I do a brisk 3-4 mile walk with a weighted vest. Yesterday I walked the trail at one of my favorite urban parks. You’re never more than 150 yards from a major road, but it often feels like you’re deep in the woods, away from it all. Here’s a brief photo essay of the walk, a la @Cat:

Came across this guy trolling all the walkers/runners
Crossed the usually-dry creek
This area is called “Custer’s Meadow.” It’s a short 1,381 mile ride from Little Bighorn.
This appears to be some kind of Dementor/First Order walker
This spot was a nice hideaway, just about 75 feet from a major street.
Finally, here I am rock-hopping my way back to my truck.

Go Sally! I need to strengthen my legs and glutes too. Maybe I’ll join you!

Outlook and attitude definitely play a big part.

Starting out your week strong though! Then the rest of the week you can recover.
Wednesdays for me as well. It’s not that the workouts are necessarily more difficult; my body just usually doesn’t want to cooperate as freely on Wednesdays.
Isn’t that interesting? It’s good that you’ve learned that about yourself. Do you take a break on the weekends?
Any day that's busier, so harder to fit in the things I want. Typically Monday and Wednesday in the winter.

Though all days in the winter because the cold sucks donkey balls.
I agree about the cold. It makes everything harder to me, too.
Tuesdays. They are the whirlpool between the Scylla of Monday morning and the Charybdis of Friday night, where I've forgotten the last weekend and I'm not close enough to the next one.
Tuesdays are glum too. I agree. Do you practice taco Tuesday or any other way to perk up the midweek doldrums?

Where is this!!! Awesome pictures!!
Thanks! It’s somewhere down in Texas. 😁

For a while I was only taking Sunday off, but my body was barking at me so I now take Saturday and Sunday off. I still go for an easy walk most Saturday mornings, but it’s mostly just to get outside and not meant to be “exercise”

Yesterday I almost skipped derby practice after fighting a migraine all day but decided to go anyway and I'm so glad I did. I have been feeling down about where I'm at with my skills, and life is super chaotic at the moment, but last night things were clicking just right. I started a new workout focusing on legs, on top on the squat challenge I shared here the other day, and I felt solid on my skates last night. I focused on having fun instead of everything in my life that I have no control over presently, and I needed that so much! I love my derby tribe. They are my soul people. 🛼 🤗
Happy Friday, Sweaters!

That’s awesome, Sally 💜. You’ve worked so hard to build this community for yourself along with honing your derby skills. I’m so glad that you have your team and teammates to focus on instead of life stressors. That’s so healthy, both mentally and physically. So ideal!

While I've been able to get back to the mileage levels in my plan this week, sweet f, I'd love some clear paths/sidewalks. I know that doing all this will only make me a stronger runner, but I'm sick of the uneven footing and slippery conditions. And I'm gonna complain about it, dammit!

Bright side, the days are noticeably longer and each day is one day closer to spring. Though today is another damn cold ass day, a frosty Friday (totally stealing that @Love_Is_Blonde!).

Um, that's pretty damn complainy... insert something positive here. 😂
