❌Monthly Song Challenge: Archived🎵

It's been a while. Hello all.
So patriotic song.
There was only one I could think of not mentioned.

I mean, it was the Eighties.
I was watching Rock N Roll Wrestling on Saturday mornings and the propaganda behind the wrestler made me want to say my prayers and take my vitamins.
A thumping beat made it difficult to calm down when I wanted to "hulk up" as we kids needed to do.
My older male cousins were super into wresting and Hulk Hogan was my fave when I was a small child (around 3-4). Seeing what he really is now makes me sad though 🙈

I totally agree.
Back then though, I was young and naive.
Not so young anymore and I do think I am a better judge of character.

Side note: have you watched Young Rock? The Rock and Randall Park play themselves in flash forwards and other actors play younger versions of Dwayne and Rocky Johnson and their family and wrestler friends. It’s a heartwarming family-type show, but I enjoyed it…especially the eps with “Andre” 🖤

Sadly I am not a wrestling stan anymore.
I know enough to talk to the Mrs since she's a huge fan, but I don't watch it anymore.

I’m not either, but there are a lot of fun cameos from (actors playing) wrestlers that we grew up with, like Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, The Sheikh, Macho Man Randy Savage, etc. They’re all like mentors or crazy uncles to little Dewey (young Dwayne)

I’ve never managed to complete a monthly song challenge and just pop in occasionally to see other picks these days, but if I was playing, Jimi’s version of the Star Spangled Banner would have been my pick too 🤩🎸

Day 5: A duet cover song

An outstanding Leonard Cohen song covered by The Civil Wars. It has a complex genesis, and was inspired by something horrifying that I really don't want to delve into here, but Cohen turns it into a song about surrendering, be it to love, to passion, or to death.

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love

The duo of Joy Williams and John Paul White, performing as The Civil Wars (which became a self-fulfilling prophecy) split it into a sweet duet.

"Dance Me to the End of Love," The Civil Wars (Leonard Cohen cover)

Day 5: A duet cover song

I'm not one for reality TV, or soap operas, or stuff like that. There's something icky to me, about ogling people and wondering about their feelings and their lives and everything else that comes with a parasocial relationship.

I'm also a hypocrite. I'm weak. Of course I get caught in stuff like that from time to time. Who doesn't? The most fun I've had with a will-they-won't-they situation is between Sarah Blackwood and Gianni Luminati of Walk Off The Earth. Their chemistry was so thick it clouded the room, but they never told anyone about their relationship until Sarahs pregnancy made it... difficult to hide. They didn't want to detract from their music with their personal relationship, but, all we fans were screaming so hard for them to get together, only to be shown that they were. All along.

I'm sappy. I was so happy I cried when they told us 😹 I mean, just look at them. They're perfect for each other. They have three kids now, all musicians of course. A little trio of preteen troubadours.
