Day 28: A song that references religion/deity

I'm sure that I've posted this before, because I love this version. It mentions the Lord, and Hallelujah, but it has always felt to me like a hymn to the diety of sorrow, of broken & lost love.

Hallelujah-Rufus Wainwright
What is amazing about this song is how many versions there are. Cohen wrote about 150 draft verses for this one, per his notebooks. His original recorded version was to me a hymn to both the sacred and profane-- that everything in this world can be held up as a hallelujah, whoever or whatever you want to howl "hallelujah" to (or at). It is a remarkable mirror to all who listen and perform it.

I have instructions that my tombstone will read:
"And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but "hallelujah..."

Yeah, more 80’s glam pop
So much more than this. It's a great fucking song from a fantastic band.

Blasphemous Rumors is a little better for this category (and was the title of and lead off song on my atheist driven mix tape)

Yes, I share some qualities with John Cusack's character in the movie High Fidelity (worth a watch if you haven't seen it -- anyone that likes music will like/love that movie).

Day 29: A song to start your week off right

For a little while after I got back out of the army, I thought electrical eel shock was going to be the biggest thing on the planet. Don’t know why they didn’t catch on. Plus they had a drummer that played totally naked all the time. What coulda gone wrong?

But rock the fuck out of this week.
