Day 25: Your favorite rap song

They were first ones to call themselves MCs. The group that coined the phrase "hip hop," and the first to be called Hip Hoppers, used derogatorily by the local Disco set. The beginning of turntablism, the break beat, and Flash's own creation, the scratch. (I almost chose that song, but it was all turntables and very little rap. Awesome, though). Political and socially minded, they lead directly to Public Enemy, KRS-One, and touched everything that came after. 1982's "The Message" was powerful, foundational, and changed everything in music.

"The Message," Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Day 25: Your favorite rap song

(Not my favorite but a great one)
Setting the scene:
Sophomore year of undergrad. Smoking a blunt in the woods at a park with a couple friends. It’s nighttime. We’re stoned as fuck. We hear music, not too far in the distance. I know this song… it’s Kid Cudi. Is that fire? Get closer.
We stumbled upon a group of fire spinners in a clearing, gathered and taking turns putting on a song and practicing. We saw fire poi, fans, hoops, all the different types. It was fucking magical. We sat and watched for probably an hour.

Idk if lit will let me keep this pic up but this is the type of thing, if you’re not familiar with fire spinning.

Hmmm... Walking through the woods and see a group gathered around fire.. this sounds like the intro to a metal song 🤔

You had better believe that "Uncle Sam got a plan"...
It was very hard to pick one favourite song from an entire vast and diverse genre.
However, I narrowed it down to two or three potential songs from one of my all-time favourite albums.
Powerful lyrics, sweet guitar, amazing spoken word insertions... and messages of truth, in a world of deception.
Definitely some key ingredients to one of my favourite albums! And a song I have loved for over twenty years!

Dead Prez - Propaganda

Totally should have used this for the best music video prompt.

Lil Dicky talks everyone in to letting him use their homes/yachts/sports cars/nightclubs for free in this music video. It's great. And the song is hilarious. The video is what makes this my favorite rap song 🤩

$ave Dat Money - Lil' Dicky

Day 26: A song you like with a weekday in the title

The professionals never got the love they really deserved. It was Steve Jones and Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols.

This is a super underrated album, and one of the best written and non-punky songs. I think Steve Jones is a hell of a guitarist and songwriter.

The Professionals - Friday. Night Leicester Square
