Day 19: A song for feeling happy

I am a big fan of The Replacements, and Don't Tell A Soul is a favorite. While the band and Matt Wallace produced it, it was seen as too poppy, and Wallace took the blame. But people miss that it was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, chosen by the label to give a more radio-ready sound. In 2019, Rhino records released a box set called Dead Man's Pop, which included a remastered version of DTaS, one in which Wallace was allowed to dump the compression and gating to give a much cleaner sound, closer to what they cut in Paul Westerberg's basement to begin with. As for the song itself, it is an upbeat bit of disillusionment, twisting ideas and wordplay around to give different angles. And for whatever reason, it makes me happy.

Day 21: A song for feeling powerful

Praying - Kesha

This came down to two songs for me. Ultimately, I chose this one. This song is so powerful for all who have experienced abuse. Even if you've forgiven your abuser(s), that trauma never leaves. So, the art and beauty of a powerful song like this one becomes something that sticks with you.
