Hi everyone, I'm going to be getting circumcised in a week for health reasons. What should I expect afterwards? I have an idea of the medical side of things but it's light on detail with regard to personal experiences and sensations. I've also been told I can't masturbate for 4 weeks afterwards, so any advice on how to manage that would be appreciated.

Obviously I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have direct personal experience of this, but anybody who knows someone who has or who has always been circumcised are welcome to chime in too.

Can't speak about the circumcision thing, but last year I had an operation that required me to wear a catheter for about three weeks. Erections and orgasms were the last things on my mind. After the catheter came out, it took about another week for me to have an erection to orgasm. But it did come back.

You had me there for a second! The surgery's all done now. The pain's mostly gone, just have to wait for the swelling to go down before I can begin to get an idea of what it will look like afterward.

It's now one week after the operation, the pain has almost entirely gone, everything is healing nicely. Unfortunately my libido has come back along with my "functionality." It's going to be a long three weeks!

As a friend to someone who did not follow doctors advice and just had to look afterwards, I don’t know about touching, and basically covered a bathroom in blood splatter like a crime scene. Follow directions to the letter, do not even take a peak, just pretend like there is nothing to see there until the doctor shows you. My friend was in 3 different hospitals in 24 hrs because he looked, and had to have microsurgery. If said friend reads this, you know you were an idiot…

I kept the dressing on for the period the doctors told me to, and I haven't had any lssues since.

.... I was circumcised at birth, so I've got a weird question. When your foreskin moved back and forth over your glans, did it 'unroll' or slide?

I'd describe it as a slide. The way I understood it was that the foreskin was just folded over and retracting it was like pulling one end of a folded cloth back.

You are very fortunate. Mine took forever to heal, till I thought the surgeon had botched up something and hadn't told me. (He had not.) I was so relieved when I could finally stop changing the daily dressing. Don't make the mistake of touching yourself on any account, it will be horrible afterwards. Yes, desire comes back long before the healing is complete and is hard to deal with.

Not at all! It's perfectly fine to be curious. If anything I wish I'd had a friend or two I could have compared equipment with when I was younger like you did. I might have realised earlier that I had a problem as I now know my foreskin was too tight even then.
