Thanksgiving > HalloweenIt's nice to see Canadians still observing Thanksgiving. Around here it's Fourth of July - not Indepence Day like we aren't independent on the 3rd or 5th then Halloween for 3 months then Christmas until July then repeat.
Alright, last day
First off, WHY are stockings like this?!?

gravy yes cranberries no and I should be ashamed to say that because I am from Massachusetts. So being as it’s Thanksgiving this weekend .., what is a better accoutrement to Turkey …
Gravy.
Cranberries
Both.
Thanksgiving is the best holiday, it’s entirely delicious food and drink based (as long as we ignore people connecting the Puritans to it)Thanksgiving > Halloween

You’ve loved a dog, no? So it’s not complete apathy. Just lack of pet enthusiasm, perhaps? What about apathy?

Do you think we can celebrate a holiday without the historical context of it?Except when you’re this wrong
I kid I kid. I get it, especially if you’re not a horror person.
I like the idea of being thankful, but celebrating colonialism can jump in a lake.
Who is celebrating colonialism??I like the idea of being thankful, but celebrating colonialism can jump in a lake.
Agreed, I think each family defines the day as they want to. With my crew, we toast and eat to being healthy, all the good fortune we have in our lives and how lucky we are to be loved.Who is celebrating colonialism??
Like, I know the origins, but I think we have successfully reclaimed thanksgiving for the food and the fellowship and the autumn vibes.
I have loved a few dogs. And I will concede that I’ve never met a Bernese mountain dog that I didn’t want to hug like a teddy bear. You’ve loved a dog, no? So it’s not complete apathy. Just lack of pet enthusiasm, perhaps?

Like I celebrate Christmas… I’m not Christian.
While colonialism is horrid … and especially where I’m from as there was never a treaty between the indigenous people and the land was just flat out stolen…
But Thanksgiving … imo … can be a holiday to recognize our privilege and remember and respect the history … while being thankful for all we have … friends, family, health, etc … whatever it is.
I certainly think individuals can and do and was not calling anyone out in particular.Who is celebrating colonialism??

How do you feel about children?I have loved a few dogs. And I will concede that I’ve never met a Bernese mountain dog that I didn’t want to hug like a teddy bear.
And I’ve loved a few cats, too.
But if you asked me if I like cats or dogs I’d say… meh
However, yeah, I do think the concept of pets it’s kinda weird to begin with, tbh.
Which I still am confused by where that idea originated from.....Except when you’re this wrong

I think Columbus Day is pretty close to dead except amongst white nationalists.I certainly think individuals can and do and was not calling anyone out in particular.
I think the larger culture still recognizes it as a pro-colonialism holiday though. Folks still celebrate Columbus Day too even with a full on rebrand.
Big fan. Babies/toddlers especially. How do you feel about children?![]()
