Hurricane Helene live updates: 64 killed, including mom and her twin infant sons

6 states impacted, fatalities confirmed in 5

Seventy-three people remain unaccounted for in Unicoi County, Tennessee, in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation, including those needing welfare checks, county officials said.

One search and rescue team discovered a casket while navigating a debris field, Unicoi County Mayor Garland "Bubba" Evely said.

"We are working with the William Jenkins Forensic Center for identification and family notification. However, there are no confirmed deaths related to the floods at this time," Everly said.

From the article:

“I’ve never seen so many people homeless as what I have right now,” said Janalea England, of Steinhatchee, Florida, a small river town along the state’s rural Big Bend, as she turned her commercial fish market into a storm donation site for friends and neighbors, many of whom couldn’t get insurance on their homes.“

😳

😑

🤬

Last I heard, a thousand were missing…

Some remote areas are totally cut off.

Not good.
so many out of contact through no cell-reception and unpassable roads... that number should come down, even as fatality numbers continue to rise.

Let’s hope so.

I do fear that there are many loners out there who nobody even knows about.

Still, the numbers are already bad enough.

🤬

Amazing to see people posting the devastation with the claim that Biden or Harris aren't there.

What do they think would happen if Biden was there?

President Biden doesn't want to get in the way of recovery/rescue attempts and put any extra duress on the local authorities (re security issues etc...,) trying to get stuff done... a visit by a sitting president right now will not be helpful.

trump, on the other hand, is visiting today—seeking to score political points and in absolute disregard of any negative impact his presence might create on others.

Hurricane Helene live updates: 107 dead, including 35 in hard-hit county

Biden plans to visit storm zone Wednesday or Thursday

President Joe Biden said Monday that Helene is "not just a catastrophic storm -- it's a historic, history-making storm."

Biden said he will travel to the impact zone as soon as possible, ideally Wednesday or Thursday. He said he’s been told it’d be disruptive to visit immediately, and he does not want to interfere with these areas accessing the relief they desperately need.

"Communities are devastated. Loved ones waiting, not sure if their loved ones are OK, and they can't contact them because there’s no cellphone connections. Many more folks displaced have no idea when they’ll be able to be return to their home, if ever, if there’s a home to return to," he said.

"There's nothing like wondering, 'Is my husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, father, alive?' And many more who remain without electricity, water, food and communications," he said.

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit hard-hit Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday.

^^
this is the difference between the men

Can't wait until the MAGA folks pivot from "where is Biden?" to something else

They already have. The “news” stinks to high heaven about how Kamala has been christened “mentally challenged” by Orange Fuhrer while showing B roll of Harris at rallies.

The “news” is all about $$$

Fox? Was created as a mouthpiece for the GOP. They don’t get that Trumplikkkans are conservative or GOP they are not Republicans

Misinformation. Repetition of propaganda and lies.

It’s bad enough that all the liberal radio station in our area and the nation(?) were bought up and killed by the wealthy in the GOP or corporations. Now? Very few television stations call out LIES and alternative facts or kernels of truth wrapped in gobs of shit

Apparently, this.Hurricane dumped up to 30inches of.rain in some areas of the Appalachians faster than any recorded storm in history.

The shift of the storm and speed made it impossible to properly track and get ahead of

Former President Donald Trump traveled to Valdosta, Georgia on Monday, where he rambled incoherently about how no one could have predicted Hurricane Helene’s arrival—which made landfall at the peak of hurricane season.

Speaking to the press outside the heavily damaged brick facade of a warehouse, Trump opined, “Nobody thought this would be happening, especially now it’s so late in the season for the hurricanes.”

🥱

has he not watched any news/weather forecast for the entire previous week? it's been predicted at LEAST that long and longer.
Hurricane season typically runs from early June through late November, meaning that there are still two months to go. What’s more, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center not only knew of Helene’s coming, but accurately predicted its path and impact days before it hit.

nah, he's simply regurgitating his old, tired-ass lines

this is the felon some people want running the show again:

“Why don’t we nuke them?” Trump asked at one hurricane briefing, according to Axios. “They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they’re moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can’t we do that?”

probably reasons, like it's not a good idea to inject bleach into the lungs
