Buckle up folks.

Hurricane Helene has just strengthen to a Cat 4 and is massive.

😳

Projected to maintain hurricane status all the way to Atlanta.

😳

Projected to be the worst hurricane in history to hit Florida’s capital.

😳

Time for Little Ronnie break to out his white boots and beg for federal assistance…again.

😑

Middle central Florida has winds but not a whole lot of rain. I spent a fair bit of time outside today - cooler and overcast with some wind. Storm is tracking a bit more west. The west coast is getting a lot of rain and wind. And when it's done with the gulf and the bump on the bend it will give a bunch more rain inland.

I’ve heard that there are about one hundred people who refuse to evacuate from the “almost certain death” zone.

😳

WTAF?!?!

😳

There always are some. Nature of the beast.

Just checked radar again, might get some outer bands in a bit, but it's got a funky image at the end I've not seen before. Don't know if it's a radar thing or a storm thing.

When I lived in Fern Park (Orlando, basically), it seemed like it was pretty much in the sweet spot for avoiding the worst of a hurricane hit. North enough, inland enough, and high enough above sea level to ride things out in fairly good shape.

👍

(Those Central Florida sinkholes were another matter).

😳

That's a bit to the North and East of me but not much.

I don't talk about sink holes. 😱😄

I think that radar image is AI future cast fun. But we'll get some rain in the area here tonight.

Guess you moved out of FL before Hurricane Andrew?

This is pretty Ironic, you lived in Fern Park, I lived a couple of miles away in Altamonte Springs for 8 years, and that guy that got banhammered recently, what was his name?...ChopHam or something like that?...lived a few more miles away in Apopka.

I don’t think I knew you were in Central Florida.

Currently out of the path but this was just 10 miles away early this morning.

Please take emergency advice seriously. Take shelter from winds and don’t underestimate moving sources of water.

Yep, I left in 1987. But even with Andrew the damage was far worse in other areas than it was in Central Florida iirc.

🤔

The Altamonte Mall was a favorite hang out back then. There was a restaurant connected to the mall called Razzles or Raffles (or something close) that served an amazing stuffed flounder.

I was also a bouncer at the ABC Liquor Lounge on 436 (a short hop from the mall), so if you ever went there back in the day, you might have met me.

😳

I think a lot of young men back in the day tried Florida on for size. When I wasn’t being a bouncer at ABC, I did various carpet and flooring projects working for a local contractor in Apopka.

Small world.

😳

Yup.

And still no rain tonight yet.

The cone of intense rain and flooding I saw on the forecasts showed an area far away from central Florida going from just east of Tallahassee almost straight north (slightly north east) into Georgia.

You’re obviously good (unless you wanted some rain?)

🤔

About 10" down for the year. Yeah I'd like some rain.

We should ask. Wonder if Kemp knows... 😄

The only thing Kemp knows, is how to suppress voting.

If there WAS a giant faucet to provide water for people standing in long lines at the polls (or for watering Georgia’s southern neighbor), Kemp would have undoubtedly had it removed.

😑

🤬

Finally getting some rain.

It's coming in as a 4. It was a 3, but now it's up to 140mph.

Notice from the local county sheriff's office:

That’s what I was worried about. The gulf waters are so warm that the hurricane can continue to strengthen and generate winds / tornadoes and intense rainfall even into and over the nighttime hours.

I hope the right wing climate change deniers’ thoughts and prayers tanks are full…

🤬

Updated:

I just heard a report that 11 people in Florida were killed by a tornado that spun off the hurricane.

Waiting for confirmation.

😳
