Jamaica Hurricane.

FYI, our company was hauling generators, equipment and work trucks to aid in the aftermath of the PR hurricane, while the weather was still treacherous enough to wreck some of it on the voyages. Sounds like YOU should go back to school and your keyboard while real men take care of the task at hand.

Soooooo…
You asked what others do TO VOLUNTEER during a natural disaster so you can brag about your job, the thing someone PAYS you to do during a natural disaster. OKDEN 👍

🙄

Having existed in a higher tax bracket for much of my adult life, I HAVE donated to the national response in crises like this - as well as ponying up additional donations in critical emergencies.

And I will monitor the national response to this crisis and determine what additional action(s) I need to take.

👍

Unfortunately, with EVERY crisis response that DonOld (ANY republican) has "presided" over, there has been the need for MASSIVE additional resources / contributions from private individuals.

👎

I also support increases in taxation on wealthier Americans such as myself, and increased government spending on climate change mitigation and green energy projects that work in unison to reduce the frequency and severity of environmental disasters (basically “anti-DonOld & the MAGAts republicans’ approach to the climate crisis).

👍

Hope that ^ helps.

ONE lone FEMA manager in Florida told her subordinates to avoid MAGAts’ homes (homes displaying Trump merch) during recovery from Hurricanes Milton & Helene because other FEMA workers had previously been threatened by the MAGAts in homes displaying Trump merch that they had visited. The MAGAts were apparently attacking / acting aggressively towards FEMA workers due to rumors that FEMA was stealing homes, etc.

Yes, there have been false claims circulating that FEMA was stealing homes and property during disasters, particularly after Hurricane Helene. These rumors have been debunked, as FEMA is not legally allowed to take anyone's property and is focused on helping with recovery efforts.https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/ip3/wpln.org.ico wpln.orghttps://external-content.duckduckgo.com/ip3/www.hstoday.us.ico hstoday.us

Rumors About FEMA Stealing Homes

Overview of the Claims

During disasters, particularly after Hurricane Helene, various rumors circulated claiming that FEMA was stealing homes and property from disaster victims. These rumors often stemmed from misunderstandings and misinformation shared on social media.

Specific Rumors

  • FEMA Confiscating Donations: Some individuals claimed that FEMA was seizing donations meant for disaster victims. This was labeled as a false rumor by FEMA officials.
  • Property Seizures: There were allegations that FEMA was impounding or stealing people's property. FEMA has stated that it does not have any interest in taking property and is solely focused on helping individuals recover.

Response from FEMA

FEMA has actively worked to debunk these rumors. They launched a rumor response page to clarify misinformation and provide accurate information about their disaster assistance programs. FEMA emphasized that they are legally prohibited from taking property and that their primary goal is to assist in recovery efforts.

Conclusion

The claims that FEMA was stealing homes during disasters are unfounded and have been addressed by FEMA as false. Misinformation can spread quickly in crisis situations, leading to confusion and distrust among affected communities.

😳

And that ONE lone FEMA manager was FIRED - though she didn’t deserve to be, imho: She had been instructed to tell her subordinates to avoid dangerous situations - and MAGAts ARE dangerous.

😳

Hope that ^ helps.

I remember Hurricane Donna when I was as poor as a Jamaican stoner. I hold up with a girl and a couple bottles of liquor and rode it out in a concrete block house. No one came to see if I was OK.

That was 65 fucking years ago. One would expect that the response to natural disasters would improve over that period of time - and it has improved.

In the MODERN age of well understood anthropogenic climate change and its contribution to the increased frequency & severity of weather related natural disasters, even MOAR funding and resources should be going into mitigation, preparedness, and response - but DonOld & the MAGAt republicans have other "priorities"…like a fucking ballroom and invading Portland…

Fortune favors the prepared. You had booze. Bonus points for the girl.

hmmm, it wasn't Donna then. I don't remember the girls name either so I got that going for me.

Yeah, the specific Hurricane and your specific location at the time are fairly important facts to get right…

The girl’s name and number of bottles of booze is somewhat less important…

May the response of the feds be equal to the response the feds preformed in Appalachia during the aftermath of hurricane Helene.......

Im guessing even Jamaicans won't act as idiotic as toothless hillbillies of Appalachia thinking government caused the hurricane.

Or "thinking" that the government was stealing their homes / property, so they threatened FEMA workers who were trying to help them…

😑

Welp, reports of the impacts from Helene are finally starting to trickle in, and the news is devastating.

And with DonOld & the MAGAt republicans in charge, things are going to get worse and end badly.

I won’t tell (suggest to) anyone which Hurricane response / relief organization to donate to, but please send more than "thoughts & prayers" to the response / relief organization of your choice (if you can afford to in these difficult times).

TIA
