I can speak French, very poorly, German, almost as poorly, and English, almost as poorly.
I can read Gaelic, but I can't speak it, as the committees who designed the Irish language not only refused to work with each other, actually hatted each other and worked to fuck the other one up.
Also C, C++, C#, Java, VB, BASIC, java script (without a space, because Lit), and Ruby, all poorly.

I try! But I find it really hard.
I learned French in school, I can do some very basic Italian and the fun of that is when I'm in Italy all the words I can remember are suddenly French.
But do I give up?
Actually yes, sometimes.
The problem with confidently delivering an opening line in a foreign language is the next question comes back in the same language.
