Sex & Shenanigans

Nah. It’s not like they were kidnapped and forced to rebuild the Deathstar. They chose to work on that project. Also, most of the people who worked on it already got paid their hourly wages or salary while working on it and do not receive royalties.
The current state of the game development industry doesn't let people just up and quit a studio only because they don't like Rowling. It's not easy to take such a heavy handed moral stance when your livelihood is at stake - finding a new gig is notoriously hard post-covid, and more and more devs are going into corporate software instead of games. It's the ones with passion who remain.
Higher sales means a better CV, it's not like royalties are the only reason why devs would want their game to do well..

Also the game itself isn't written by her, and includes a plethora of lesbian, queer, trans characters and voice actors...

Think we're just going to have to agree to disagree here.

I was a PlayStation MVP, I know game devs; they’re a small community, many have worked with multiple studios and they talk to each other. They know what a studio is like before applying and there are some studios the good devs won’t even touch.
I haven’t played Hogwarts Legacy myself, but from what I’ve read of it, those characters were diversity tokens that were so bad they were practically caricatures, much like the non-white characters in her books.
I loved the Wizarding World when I was younger, but the much of the magic is gone, thanks to JKR being such a shitty person. If I ever want to go back, I have books, ebooks, DVDs, Blu-rays and games that were purchased before she made her stance public. I refuse to stream or buy any of her new stuff, and if I ever did suddenly feel compelled to play the new games or watch the new movies, I would buy them used.

I mean, yeah, she's an awful person, but the universe she created is wonderful, and there were thousands of other people involved in making the game who don't deserve to be shunned by proxy just because we hate 0.1% of the workforce..

I've spoken about this a lot in song's Music thread - I find it utterly important, for the survival of diverse culture, to separate the art from the artist. We can still enjoy Harry Potter without liking JK herself.
I struggle with this too …. Like songs by artists that are trash like R. Kelly …. Ignition is such a jam … but like… I don’t wanna support him. But also … what about all the other people involved in making the song … is it their fault this chode of a human did what he did?
Or like, KidRock …. He was always kind of a trash human … if I listen to his music does that mean I support him as a person or do I just like the music?

I always forget that JKR is a cunt nugget… I love the movies so much … and I’m sure all the across IN the movies don’t feel the same way …. So do they deserve to be shunned like you said, by proxy? I don’t think so. I always want to watch HP at Christmas time … and it’s comforting.

I wonder how much are (music, painting, movies, tv) that exists where people involved are horrible people … and we don’t know.

If we started boycotting all the shit peope and all their work we'd run out of rock music and movies. Eric Clapton? Racist cunt. Jimmy page? Pedo. Hitchcock? Misogynistic sadist. Manowar? more pedos.

Exactly. Once someone creates something and shares it with the world, to a large extent it’s no longer theirs.
Every single person seeing, reading, or experiencing it has their own relationship to it.
And a lot of those relationships are incredibly positive. What’s been created has changed, or even saved, lives.
The artist doesn’t really matter anymore once that’s happened.
