I stopped at a small store in southern Oregon. They had the ammunition in a glass cabinet at the counter, and the booze on shelves just behind it. One stop shopping at its best.

Really? Oregon now sells booze in stores other than liquor stores? I mean, here in Nevada we can buy whiskey at Walmart if we want... but in Oregon?

I work with middle schoolers sometimes. They were trying "yo mama" jokes, and failing, hard. So I said "your mama is soooo nice, your friends come to her with their problems." "Your mama is soooo nice, she probably gives you really good hugs." "Your mama is soooo smart, she helps you with your homework."

Washington sells in stores as well, but they jumped the taxes up so it is ridiculous.

This was down in rural Oregon, in beautiful Wamic, outside of Maupin. (I rafted the Deschutes a lot.) I think it was probably small enough of a town to combine the state run liquor store, the groceries, the post office, and probably sold shoes as well.

I have one giant real map hanging up, but I admit I only got because there are pirate ships and sea monsters in it

And on either side there’s a book map and a song map.

Exactly! My mortgage, with insurance and taxes is 12% of my income. But that's because timing worked out. I could not afford my house if I had to buy it today. And isn't it amazing what the school district will do to the perceived value of a house?!

My non existent children did not need a quality education, so a mediocre school district was on my must have list for locations
