Sex & Shenanigans

NYC recommendations as a former frequent visitor and now Midwest tourist (glares at @Whiskeyjack )

1) yes to either subways or cabs/Lyft. There is no reason to have a car, this is the one truly mass transit friendly city in the US.

2) food, im sure there are more current recommendations than I have available, but do go to Katz’s Delicatessen in Lower East Side and Wo Hop in Chinatown. Both have fond memories for me.

3) do see a show on Broadway, and while there you can walk through Time Square and say “oh that’s nice” and that’s enough of that spot

4) if you want a hot dog while in America, skip street dogs and go to Greys Papaya in Lower East Side

5) my favorite bagel is Ess A Bagel, it has a few locations in Manhattan

6) for dessert, sweets, try to find yourself at Milk Bar

7) what to do really depends on what sounds fun, but get onto the harbor if you can, either a round trip on Staten Island Ferry or a trip to Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island if you want to learn about the USA’s immigrant history in the late 19th early 20 century

8) there are endless museums and you can’t go wrong with any of them, choose what’s interests you and go to them

9) take some time to just spend time in Central Park and just enjoy seeing NYC relax in their little slice of nature.

Im sure I have other thoughts but that’s top of mind. I’ve usually just been visiting family or friends when in town so wasn’t always tourist focused

1. Totally agree. Subway is cheapest but crowded and some stations can be sweltering especially in the summer.

2. It's almost impossible to describe the food situation in NYC. Pick any country at random and they will be represented by at least one restaurant.

3. Times Square... feh. As for plays you can see Broadway blockbusters or interesting indie productions in smaller venues. Magazines/sites like Time Out are great resources.

4. Haven't had Grey's in years!

5. Haven't had Ess A but NYC is bagel central.

6. There is also I believe an Ice Cream Museum on lower Broadway/SoHo

7. Tons of history in NYC. In addition to the Statue and Ellis there is also the Tenement Museum, a reconstruction of an apartment building and the domestic life of immigrants at the turn of the 20th century.

8. Art, History, Science... the list is endless. There is also the Museum of Sex on 5th Ave/27th Street (hey, this is Lit)

9. In addition to Central Park there are plenty of smaller spaces like Washington Square at the beginning of 5th Ave on the NYU campus. Always something going on.

gaaaaaaaahhhhhh

So many better areas. I understand the glitz can be overwhelming to visitors but I gladly walk ten extra blocks to avoid the crowds standing around gaping.
I get that, I was young and dumb.... Probably not my choice now....
But it was my favorite part at the time
