Sex & Shenanigans

I'm coming to visit. Not you. But the city.

Any recommendations?
I really only go into the city for Broadway shows and the Met Opera. You can't go wrong with anything like that. If you're in Manhattan, Times Square is worth walking through, just for the sheer sensory overload, but don't bother going to any of the restaurants there - especially the chains. Unless you want to be surrounded by tourists from the Midwest (we went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square once - SO MANY people in Indiana U. and Michigan State shirts). If you plan on going to any of the museums - especially the popular ones like the Natural History Museum, make sure you get tickets ahead of time unless you feel like waiting around for a couple hours for a time slot. Don't try to drive in the city unless you have a death wish. But if you try to get around by subway, just keep in mind that 1/3 of the stations will be closed for various reasons and there's no way of knowing which ones until you're on the train and it doesn't stop where you want to get off.

Santa: I've been to New York thousands of times.
Buddy: Really?
Santa: Mm-hmm.
Buddy: What's it like?
Santa: Well, there are some things you should know. First off, you see gum on the street, leave it there. It isn't free candy.
Buddy: Oh.
Santa: Second, there are, like, thirty Ray's Pizzas. They all claim to be the original. But the real one's on 11th. And if you see a sign that says "Peep Show", that doesn't mean that they're letting you look at presents before Christmas.

I cannot endorse that statement any more fervently.

Also, the subway in New York is its own world, its own experience, and honestly --if you can handle a bit of weird-- worth the trip. The buskers as some of the best in the world, if nothing else.
