SCOTUS watch thread: Trump immunity, Capitol riot defendants, abortion, censorship

“The very basis of our judicial system is that no one is above the law. Treason or incitement of insurrection should not be considered a core constitutional power afforded to a president.”

Schumer
jordan seems to be fretting, calling on the ideological left to “uphold democratic norms”

he cites Smith's actions as weaponising the justice dept to go after Biden's political rival, demanding the left has to stop this; methinks there's a little more to this plea as he must be able to see it cuts both ways and understands how trump would operate under it and sees a chance that President Biden could exploit that same ruling.

i also think most of us know that President Biden wouldn't commit the kind of actions jordan's knows felon trump is liable to if he gets reelected.

Nope.

Please read the US Constitution for once in your horrid fishwife life. Concentrate on Article II, Section 4. In it you'll note that a President can be tried and found guilty of Treason, Bribery, High Crimes, and Misdemeanors. Actively engaging in sedition or armed insurrection would fit under those categories.

However, the ONLY remedy for a President doing so is impeachment and removal.
And what legally stops a president from ordering those who could impeach the president to be killed??

FWIW, I think we should all be happy that the issue has been decided and we all now KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that immunity exists as either absolute or presumptive immunity.
Why should the citizens of the USA be happy that the issue has been decided? It’s been a non-issue for 235 fucking years. But, then again, your orange god is a rules for thee but not for me kind of guy. Rule of law has prevailed my ass, lol

Disingenuous re: your post:

= gross and purposely misleading oversimplification.

But thanks for your time! 😃
Did or did not Obama order drone strikes that resulted in the deaths of US citizens without due process?

Yes or no you fucking imbecile.

The Supremes talked about this. They said there was a presumption of immunity unless it could be shown that the acts didn't fall within the penumbra of official duties. They also said that mere allegations that it doesn't fall within the scope of those duties isn't enough to overcome the presumption.

So a difference of opinion regarding the phone calls being official or not isn't going to be good enough.

🙄

The corrupt orange traitor was acting as CANDIDATE corrupt orange traitor in pursuit of an election "win" with the phone call.

The corrupt orange traitor was acting as CANDIDATE corrupt orange traitor in pursuit of an election "win".with the January 6th attempted insurrection.

Just like the corrupt orange traitor was acting as CANDIDATE corrupt orange traitor in pursuit of an election "win" when blackmailing President Zelenskyy to manufacture dirt on the likely Democratic nominee with that "perfect" phone call.

Let the prosecutions begin!!! (move forward).

👍

I still think the strongest case against 45 is the Florida documents case. I can't see the ruling changing things there.

Nixon had nothing to do with Watergate you idiot. Nixon's crime was obstruction of justice in an attempt to protect his AG. It was Mitchell that know of and approved the Watergate break in.

Eh, official act.

Keep shilling for the destruction of our country. Fuck you're an ass Ish.

Nothing significant will happen there until Cannon is removed from the case.
