SCOTUS watch thread: Trump immunity, Capitol riot defendants, abortion, censorship

Boy all these major decisions, no wonder they're not bothering to put out the piddly ass no big deal presidential immunity ruling.

This court is a sham.
Totally a political sham. They have purposefully delayed Trump's ongoing trials, as if there is any question at all about whether Presidents have the Divine Rights of Kings. If the jerk gets elected, those trials will cease.

This is a gross and consequential example of justice delayed being justice denied.

And all their other decisions are nothing more than political posturing in a desperate attempt to try to make people think the majority right-wingers are not political hacks trained by the Federalist Society, who say, "We got you this job, now you need to do what we sent you to do."

Supreme Court Justices Put Ideology Over Impartiality, Poll Finds

Poll finds Americans don't trust the Supreme Court to remain impartial and are influenced by their own personal ideologies.

Really?

No, REALLY!!!!

DUH!
This is odd - the rulings this cycle have not been along ideological lines. Jackson and Kavanaugh have agreed multiple times. Thomas (and maybe Alito) has been the outlier.....probably the closest to any ideological bent

Freaking disaster.

Anyone who thinks businesses don’t need regulations to keep them from damaging our lives and environment is hopelessly naive and ignorant of history.
Congress will have to write clear, specific legislation. Horrible!

They will need to rewrite legislation, which will mean a bunch more of unelected people moving to the legislative branch as well as a backlog in the courts. It's going to be more of a mess than it already is.

It likely will be messy and hard, but the legislative branch is accountable to voters. Agencies are not.

Any tiny change to update a regulation now requires Congressional action, and we all know how much Congress gets done.

Every regulation becomes a political football for Clown Show Party Representatives to demonize in a bid for individual attention.

Basically we now have no enforceable federal regulations.

American democracy died with "Citizens United" and was just buried with the Chevron ruling.

I feel more “revolutionary” today.

Corporatocracy with a Theofascist bent must be opposed by any and all means.

SCOTUS expected to hand down ruling re trump's imagined immunity Monday, as the last ruling they make this session.

Lower courts have flatly rejected Trump’s arguments.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is overseeing Trump's election subversion case, said whatever immunities a sitting president may enjoy, the position "does not confer a lifelong 'get-out-of-jail-free' pass."

And a three-judge panel in the U.S. Court of Appeals later unanimously rejected Trump's claims, warning if they were to be accepted they would “collapse our system of separated powers.”

he's a million percent better than last night, but he's still not fully up to par just yet.
he needed this today; he needed it yesterday but wasn't up to managing it.
i hope he doesn't ruin his health by pushing himself too far too soon but, again, he needed this

Yes, give him a rest day.

Our President.

Sorry, I'm done with that horseshit. He needs to step down now.

I used to hate Trump for his ego. What is Biden running for at this point?

He won't beat the "threat to democracy" - no fucking way.

What is he running for? (It has to be ego at this point)

Compare. JFC. Okay Trump had a "good" (very debatable, heh) debate but he comes out the next day and continues to spout his crazy ass script of nonsense.

Biden had a shitty debate (although not according to everyone) but he comes out the next day and gives one hell of a speech.

stepping down now will do what, exactly?

who is placed to be a successful alternate candidate able to get the votes to beat the felon?

even you didn't come up with a viable alternative when asked by adrina(?)

if enough people can coalesce around one candidate who would be willing and able to take on the task, perhaps President Biden might step down... would Kamala Harris get the nod without being on Biden's ticket as his running mate? right now, she might be the only one conversant enough with the job to do it justice, but to leave a vacuum without a sound option is never a wise move.

if i'd not seen his performance today, just one day after that disaster, i might have been voicing my own agreement with you since i found last night a shocker... more for how he looked under lights too bright that washed him out like a sheet on a line and gave him those creepy black eyes. Not a good look.

It will remove him from consideration.

No idea, not the guy who sucked at the debate.

I'm not employed to do so.

I'd suggest Harris because it's easy and fluid.

Politics moves at a speed people seem to miss. Biden is not a good look..he sucked.

Admit that.....please.
And the let's discuss things in some serious way

i did, yesterday, and today

i'd like to think Harris would get the vote but i'm not convinced she would... too many others who might see themselves as having just as much if not more potential to beat trump, and so it'd devolve into a shit-show.
