SCOTUS watch thread: Trump immunity, Capitol riot defendants, abortion, censorship

he's a million percent better than last night, but he's still not fully up to par just yet.
he needed this today; he needed it yesterday but wasn't up to managing it.
i hope he doesn't ruin his health by pushing himself too far too soon but, again, he needed this

The President’s schedule has been brutal recently, and the crises have been relentless.

President Biden has been addressing wars, building coalitions, dealing with climate change related crises, taking to task corporate greed (greedflation) and even a ship taking down The Key Bridge. (President Biden has even addressed the border after the racist, corrupt orange traitor sabotaged the BIPARTISAN immigration reform and border security bill.)

That ^ while his son deals with legal issues, and he campaigns against a malignant narcissist and a cabal that is a threat to the country.

He’s entitled to have ONE bad DEBATE day. (Infrastructure is still being fixed, veterans are still getting compensated for exposure to chemicals, chip fabrication plants are still being built, insulin prices are still being capped, etc, etc, etc.)

👍

And he looked markedly better today.

👍

god, did you see how trump claimed it was him who'd cut the prices of insulin??? (no, not calling You 'god', just a hangover expression of incredulity tainted by a catholic upbringing, lol )

i did, yesterday, and today

i'd like to think Harris would get the vote but i'm not convinced she would... too many others who might see themselves as having just as much if not more potential to beat trump, and so it'd devolve into a shit-show.
It's already a shit show. Nothing about this election is better than that description

so, i'd rather not see it become an even shittier shit-show by throwing out Biden with the bathwater over one debate when there's no strong consensus amongst the other Democrats who'd vote for a replacement candidate.

it was a lot stronger than yesterday's debacle, but do you remember that debate Biden had onstage with the other dem candidates, when Kamala Harris called him out? He seemed pretty lost and confounded on that particular stage but rallied strongly and became no: 46.

I still want a younger candidate. In my work, I deal with young adults all the time. They resent boomers not turning over the reins of power to the next generations.

And last night was downright ridiculous with those two fossils on stage. It's time to pass the torch.

I would love to see more youth involved and running.

We're in this cycle until they step up and say "enough is enough".

I want to join you in your sentiment.

I can't. This was not the same situation and debate.

This is exactly the sentiment we need
But people need to understand how civics works.
We need amendments.

And no one is prepared for that....they want to pack courts and complain about how voting works.

This is fucking important and no one wants to do the leg work.

I’m a Boomer (in my mid 60s) who shares the prevailing wish that we had better, younger candidates in the presidential race. But I’ve also knocked on doors for city council candidates in their early 40s and would happily do the same if there were younger candidates with the capabilities and desire to seek office.

Curious what the young people you deal with want or expect from Boomers. Have they shared what they believe the Baby Boom generation is doing that’s preventing younger generations from taking the reins?

Yes, they are fed up with Boomer pols who have to get to the Weekend-At-Bernie's stage before they step aside.

Witness Mitch McConnell, Diane Feinstein, Chuck Grassley, Ruth Bader Ginzberg, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. Believe it or not, life will go on without Boomers clinging to power long after their shelf life expires.

Thanks. I get that most octogenarians are past their prime. But two of the five are dead. The vast majority of office holders at the city, county, state, and federal level are not that old. If the young people you work with think the tiny fraction of pre-Baby Boomers are holding them back, let them know they don’t have to sit back and complain.

This, times a hundred thousand! Come back Obama, all is forgiven!! Seriously.

And seriously, why couldn't the Republicans come up with a decent, moral, respectable candidate?

Two of the six died in office, and the other four are headed in that direction. Weekend at Bernie's.

I'm talking about getting more young people to vote, not necessarily to run for office. Republican fossils don't really want them to vote, but Democrats should. Presidential politics can either create enthusiasm or cynicism. These two old Boomers are both discouraging high voter turnout.

They appear to be fresh out of those.

I’m not kidding. The Republican House and Senate are full of wackos (sane Republicans declined to run for reelection).

And the Republican governors compete with each other to do outlandish things to get attention. They’re all in the Kristi “Gravel Pit” Noem mold of degeneracy.

There was plenty of youth and differing ideas on display during the Republican primaries and the voters made their choice known. It was the democrats that had no choice(s) to make.

The average age of Members of the House at the beginning of the 117th Congress was 58.4 years; of Senators, 64.3 years.
That’s a lot of boomers. I don’t think the majority of youth care how old your city council members are. I am curious, did they win their race?

Yo

You are such a well-trained corporate lackey.

Youth on the bench .....

Like maybe ... BeerBash? Canon? Kacsmaryk?

Youth in office .....

Like maybe .... Greene? Boebert? Hawley? Gaetz?

The youngers are more nutty than the olders.

You are still not getting that this is about replacing Biden with someone that has the health and vigor to activate a youthful Democratic base. Biden's transition period ended on Thursday night. If the naive white liberals do not wake up to this fact, the Democratic Party will fail in November, and I'm not just talking about the Presidential race.

Boomers are so fucking defensive about their Disneyland generation...

I believe Andy Beshear would do a good job, but I don't believe he'll ever subject himself to the hate that goes with the job.

There has been talk of The Gretch, but I'm not sure I'd favor that either.

Yes, the Democrats would be best to dip down into newer generations. (I've consistently said Biden was too old to be continuing. But here we are). But I think you overbake what the younger people will do if Biden isn't replaced on the ticket. They are not going to run to what Trump is. They simply won't. More of them may stay home in disillusionment, but Trump is so much not acceptable to them that I believe most of them will vote anyone but him in November.

ẞHey! Take your Biden worries to thread
This one is about SCrOTUS bullshit

Question: can the President nominate a SCOTUS judge even if there's no vacancy?

Final round of rulings set to release in less than an hour...
