I called it almost one month ago.

The two fringe-right ministers, Smotrich and Gvir, announced they will give Netanyahu a vote of no confidence if Netanyahu accepts ANY permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

This would result in a new election for Prime Minister and likely end Netanyahu's political career.

I've already said once if Netanyahu is replaced it could be someone more hard-line than him.

Antisemitism on the left is a big problem. Coupling hating Israel to other progressive issues like LGBT rights and social justice weakens the entire movement at a time when unity is essential to fight the rise of fascism.

A united condemnation of Hamas by the progressive left after 10/7, and a demand that the perpetrators surrender to Israeli or international authorities, coupled with a demand for the release of all hostages, would have been optimal.

The progressive left’s actual response was faaaaaar less than optimal.

They should be ashamed.

The right wing Likkud party can only maintain power by forming a coalition with two ultra right wing factions. One of these factions controls the West Bank Israeli voting bloc, the illegal settlers in the West Bank. They are hell bent on grabbing as much new territory as possible, an initiative that began when Trump got elected and changed American foreign policy to "look the other way".

History has shown the West Bank squatters cannot achieve their goal of "Lebensraum" without military backup, and Netanyahu promised to send troops in to assist their lawless land grab in exchange for the prime minister position.

With a finite number of troops to draw from, Netanyahu was forced to pull troops from the comparatively "pacified" land border with Gaza, gambling that the "inmates" in the "World's Largest Open Air Prison" wouldn't notice. This will go down in history as a spectacular miscalculation on Bibi's part.

Lesson Learned: You cannot build a massive open air prison and then arbitrarily withdraw half of your guards. The world may not notice, but the "prisoners" sure as hell will....and did.

Israel has no one but themselves to blame for the 10/7 "prison break".
