Cars > Guns

Completely irrelevant response, but I know that forensic scientists can profile steel by impurities and identify if a sample is consistent with another sample. Kind of cool.

Under the microscope, they can tell all kinds of things. I had a waitress who was working herself through forensics sciences. Pity she was so young . . . .

I started a whole thread about dense walkable cities. We don't need to ban cars, just stop subsidizing them and let the free market do its work.
The market is turning against electric cars and those building them are losing money so that may help to keep them off the road. That's the free market doing its due diligence.:D

"An armed society is a polite society."

This silly saying was already outdated when I was a kid, for good reason. Being polite out of fear doesn't breed safety or security. You take a bullet to the back instead of to the face - either way, you still get shot. 🙂

(Not to mention it diminishes itself by including the phrase "polite society" - which is its own can of worms.)

It's not meant to. And you're equating fear to uncertainty as well as tossing in hyperbole for dramatic effect. Both are incorrect when it comes to the general gist of the statement.

Additionally, you're throwing out the assumption you are safe and secure now, or are inferring that, in a society where law-abiding citizens are disarmed, you would feel safe and secure?

Good. Electric cars are still cars with all the social costs and dangers they entail. There should be no public money spent to build electric car infrastructure.

When I started out being in favor of electric cars, my idea was that we would all just drive golf carts. Slow, quiet, and energy efficient. You would live and work near home. I dislike public transit, even in places where it is done well like parts of Europe, or at least once was done well.

Electric cargo bikes are great. If there were more protected bike lanes in my part of LA I'd own one right now.

So we're not doing it out of fear of the cops/courts today?

Address your original assertion first - which I responded to - then maybe we'll talk. 🙂

Why didn't you discuss what the "general gist of the statement" is in your response, above?

(Answer: because you can't defend it.) 😎

The right-wing media bubble has convinced MAGA supporters that American cities are filthy crime-ridden hell-holes. Since their audience is afraid to venture out of their suburban enclaves, they never learn what life in these cities is really like. Traffic does suck, but we're trying to fix that.

I've been in plenty of big cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Minneapolis, St Paul, Phoenix, Tucson, Boston, Indianapolis, Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Louisville, Milwaukee, Madison, to name a few, and everyone of them had 2 distinct residential zones. One of nice homes and less criminal activity and the other more run down with higher criminal activity and drug activity.

Truth.
