Variations on a theme

After my divorce nearly everything was broken... My heart, my life... And in my move out of my home I'd shared with my husband, pretty much every tea cup I'd spent years collecting broke. To me, this picture represents my start over. And that out of broken things we can rebuild something beautiful.

Not every type of damage can be seen from the outside. Sometimes, the pain is hidden away. Shattered pieces held together by a thin veil of normalcy.

You don't notice it at first, when you meet someone who's broken. Maybe you poke the wrong button. Maybe you pull the wrong switch. The illusion shatters. Your friend is not who you thought they were. They're broken.

But that doesn't mean you throw them away. No. You've lived a life together. Memories. Laughter. And whatever they've become, the past won't change. And maybe you can show them some new adventures. Now that you know the state they're in. A bit crooked. A bit broken.

I'm crying now. Not because of your beautiful words, they were very moving and spoke to me on a personal level, but because I don't know where my original gameboy is. 😭
