Sex & Shenanigans

I feel like I've told this story a million times. But, what the hell...

I was 8 or 9 when the "It" miniseries came on television, and I watched it every night for three nights I believe. Didn't scare me one bit. I mean it had John Boy and Lana Lang in it! Also, Tim freaking Curry. They are beloved actors. I wasn't scared at all. I wanted more.

The movies were pretty good too. Not scary to me.

However, The Blair Witch Project scared the crap out of me when it came out. Had all the lights on in the house for a month. I think I was 19? 20?
Blair Witch was primo horror. Still good.

But It was pretty tame compared to the 70s stuff. People still bring up Trilogy of Terror and the Zuni doll.

In the 70s, they were fine with letting the bad guy win ...

Blair Witch has some staying power.

My teenage daughters and their friends love that movie.

I fucking LOVE the Blair Witch. I saw it in the theaters very early in the phenomenon and it messed me up more than most movies ever have. I think Book of Shadows is a severely underappreciated movie that tries to deal with similar themes without just recreating the same movie (looking at you Saw and Paranormal Activity). And taking my daughter to go see Blair Witch on opening night is a peak memory for me.

With Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, I still have a vivid memory of, during a commercial, my mom asking me to go get something out of the garage.

And I looked over to her with my eyes like saucers. I was thinking "I am never going into the garage ever again!"

I need to watch some good 70's stuff. Recommendations welcome.

I'm not a slasher fan. Unless it is Sam Raimi or Wes Craven. Then, slash away I say!

Carrie. The Omen. The Wicker Man. The doll story in Trilogy of Terror," which you can find on YouTube. The Legend of Hell House. Assault on Precinct 13 isn't horror, technically, but it might as well be a zombie flick.

Off the top of my head. I'll get you some more.

Almost all have been remade. Do not watch the remakes.

Im not really a big fan of 70’s horror in general but Black Christmas is maybe the first “slasher” flick and it’s not exploitative unlike any of the ones that followed and far better than most of the 80’s slasher’s IMHO.

The Japanese movie House (Hausa) is fantastically bonkers.
