Day 10: A song to pump up a crowd

I read a review in the daily paper, many many years ago, about a rock concert I went to. I can't remember the band, nor the venue, but I vividly remember a single line from it.
"Önskar att bandet kunde sluta hålla Allsång, och bara fokusera på musiken."

It's hard to translate, but it's roughly something like "I wish the band could stop emulating Allsång (a classic Swedish TV program where the audience all sings along with the artists), and just focus on the music".

It made me furious. It made me sad. It made me wonder how someone can go to a rock concert and not expect the crowd-work, how someone can avoid getting swept up in the moment, the feeling, the wonder of thousands of people sharing the joy of music at once. It's the sole reason I go to live shows.

The crowd.
The community.
The love.
You.

For as long as I can remember, D-A-D (Disneyland After Dark until old Walt sent a cease and desist) has finished their shows with this song. Take a few minutes out of your day, and listen to the crowd as the chorus hits.
As the band falls silent, and the thousand-strong-family picks up the torch.
This is what music is all about.

And sing along, if you'd like 💕

It's after dark now
And Disneyland is closed
The party is over
The night is here
Let's bring out a toast

D-A-D - It's After Dark

Goosebumps. You brought a tear to my eye as well. That is the best thing about going to a concert. A sense of community and love for music. 💗💗💗

Day 10: A song to pump up a crowd

For as long as I can remember this has been the music just before kick off at Sunderland. Latterly Ready to Go by Elastica and Dance of the Knights from Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet have been added before it, but this is when the crowd take over...

D-A-D - It's After Dark

There is a Queen song I won't name here out of respect for the rules, but it is known for the crowd response. I would use it, but it has a completely different vibe --it isn't about pumping up a crowd, or saying goodnight. It is just about love, the love for the song, for the band from the crowd, for their fans from the band. A single spotlight, with Freddie to start it, Brian on acoustic guitar, and thousands of voices singing back to them. It is incredibly beautiful. Seeing it on video can raise goosebumps. Standing in the crowd, singing with them, was transcendent.

Day 10: A song to pump up a crowd.

Going with another concert song, I mean.. if you are able to get the audience at Orange Scene @ Roskilde Festival, North Europe's biggest music festival, to lose themselves in your music.. then I guess you have managed to pump up the crowd.
