I'm usually the DM these days. But my last venture as a player was a dwarven divine soul sorcerer who liked to literally piss on anything Elvish. Which was awesome when we came across an Elf-lord's tomb that was trapped with electricity.

Eh, 4E is the only edition I only played a bit in. But I loved the Unearthed Arcana for her warlocks, and that was really what got me into 5e. Fun fun fun stories hooks to play off of. Stories!
I know you find it surprising that I am the "roleplayer guy" rather than the power player...

The last time I played d&d was before my kids were born, so maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It was with my husband and 4 of his male coworkers. I kept trying to casually flirt my way into something extra fun but unfortunately it only worked with the NPCs

I actually give nonshits about edition wars (these days , given my druthers is way prefer a PbtA or Cypher or OSR game to any D&D edition, but I play the games I got). I understand why people didn’t like 4e but I think it was structurally way more interesting an evolution than 5e. I do have a particular interest in how the lore has changed and evolved over the various systems though. It’s nice to see her impact on the game writ large.
