Sex & Shenanigans

Which is why I have an Instant Pot.

And my air fryer, which is just a small convection oven. Love those two.

Roommate has an Instant Pot that is also an air fryer. I prefer my front-loading air fryer though, my short self has burnt my arm trying to get stuff out of his top-loading Instant Pot air fryer 😬

I'm too cheap to do Uber Eats...
We should all be too cheap to do Uber Eats.
I happily admit I use food delivery services in moderation. I cook a lot and love it, but I also work a ton and sometimes I’m exhausted and have a craving. I figure it’s one of the least destructive vices. Plus all those extra work hours should go to occasional frivolous things 😂

I got 2 free years of GrubHub+ (no service fees) with my Amazon Prime membership, but with the markup, tax and tips, it’s still not really worth it unless I’m sick, starving and home alone. Like how does a Taco Bell order for 1 that should be $5-8 balloon into $25-30?
Yeah, there are definitely places that I won’t order from because of the ridiculous markups.

No offense intended, dear Lady. We find our joys where we can, and sometimes that means someone else cooks and you can eat in your sweats and socks. And I have friends who drive for UberEats, so they get the work as well.

On the other hand, I have young co-workers who have fast food Ubered to them daily...

Well, the oven in my stove has convection anyway, and that's very common these days. The ones I see using air fryers here are young people who haven't really learned to use the oven they have, and think the fryer is magically different...

Here most places where you'd order from are even normally over 10€. Like, a normal lunch price is at least 12€. And when ordering I've seen a pizza balloon to 28€... Didn't order. Even without ordering, eating out often easily breaks your budget. You can, after all, eat the whole day with 10€ if you cook yourself.

Hmm…as far as I know, convection ovens built into regular ovens aren’t that common here yet, but then again, most places I’ve lived were rented and I haven’t had any reason to go shopping for a new oven recently.

Here in the states, a fast food combo is generally around $7-12, I used Taco Bell’s $5-8 prices as an example because they’re among the cheapest national chains, and so it serves as the best example of how the delivery app markup, fees, taxes and tip can easily inflate the delivery app prices to much more than what it would be if it was picked up in-person.

What you’ve mentioned has happened to me multiple times with delivery apps. I add my order to the cart and go to checkout only to see it’s exponentially higher than it usually is for takeout and “NOPE” right out of it.

Around here they common enough that you may well have convection oven even in a rented apartment.

Not that I rent, I prefer buying and then remodeling my home to suit me. Usually winning some when I then move out and sell.

Taco Bell is a rarity here. In regards to fast food it's mostly hamburgers and pizzas. A hamburger meal is below 10€, then again that's not something most people would eat even monthly anyway. Prices in the major pizza chain start at 12€ - those with lower prices than that are likely not taking care all of their duties.

Next classic takeaway category would be Asian ethnic restaurants. But the main decently priced restaurant option here is lunch buffet. Those exist all around, and they don't necessarily offer takeaway.

My double oven has both convection and air fry in the bottom oven, but neither are standard in the US yet. I’ve seen convection ovens more in Canada, but maybe that’s because I’ve stayed in corporate housing and they skew very modern with new appliances.

I use both though. Convection when I want speed and air fry when I want speed plus extra crispy.

From what I understand, air fryers are just smaller (and therefore more energy-efficient) convection ovens. You could even put air fryer-style baskets in a regular convection oven to get the same results and crispy edges as an air fryer, but in larger oven-sized portions.

Yeah. When you live alone, you really don't wanna turn on a huge oven just for a few chicken nuggets.

Also, sometimes ovens heat up your house and in the summertime you wanna keep it cool.

My house had a convection oven, and I loved it, but currently I am cooking for one, so the smaller air fryer works for most of what I use it for. So for baking for one, or heating up some popcorn chicken for the kid, or even a small piece of meat, it works great.

I am living in an apartment now, and it has a fine oven, but it is a standard, radiant oven. So the little appliances work well for this situation.
