My miserly attitude toward posting any pics has more to do with my own privacy & mood than anything else. There is a coalescence of several factors that have to occur before I'll post a pic of myself. Usually the formula looks like this: I like the pic + my sleep gummy is still making me woozy + I'm grumpy at my SO= I'll post a pic for a few minutes

I 100% respect your reasons for posting pics in the way you choose to do so. But this is why I don't think more people posting their own pics instead of commenting/complaining that they have missed a pic would have any effect on how long other people leave their pics up.

That said, the "I missed it" posts don't add anything to the thread and they start to feel a bit whiny and attention seeking. Most of us miss certain peoples' pics. It's a fact of timezones and work schedules and whatever else. I have been known to express my disappointment about it from time to time, but when it happens *every time* a person misses a pic, it's annoying.
