I was wondering whether more people would post for longer if they weren't met by a barrage of "I missed it" posts from people who never contribute themselves to the thread?

I think one of the great things about this thread is the amount of people who post here who don't elsewhere.

Now everyone is perfectly free to post how they want to, or not post at all, but don't be complaining you're not seeing what people post if you give shit all back to the group yourselves

Yeah.

My miserly attitude toward posting any pics has more to do with my own privacy & mood than anything else. There is a coalescence of several factors that have to occur before I'll post a pic of myself. Usually the formula looks like this: I like the pic + my sleep gummy is still making me woozy + I'm grumpy at my SO= I'll post a pic for a few minutes

I won’t presume to speak for Salty or anyone else, but your reasons sound very logical to me. I also don’t think I ever would have even thought of you as someone who constantly comments you missed pictures AND absolutely never shares yourself. It’s the extremes/absolutes that stand out to me. I never expect anything from anyone and don’t post a ton myself, so when I notice something seems really imbalanced it’s usually pretty overt
