Day 20: A song by an artist no longer alive
2016 was a shit year for famous people dying (certainly in the UK). Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Muhammed Ali, and for the Brits, you can add Terry Wogan. It also saw off 2/3 of Emerson, Lake and Palmer which oh so nearly had me posting prog rock on the thread...

But we also said goodbye to Victoria Wood. Most of you non-Brits will immediately go "Who?" and scroll past, but this woman was a bona fide national treasure. A comedian and actress, her observations on the normality and banality of life stand as strong today as they did when they were originally written / performed / broadcast.

And the, there was the ballad of a middle aged couple in suburban England. Just enjoy...

Day 20: A song by an artist no longer alive

I was gonna pick a Motörhead song but got beat to it! Guinness Boys by The Business was also a choice, but then I remembered Adam Schlessinger died. Fountains of Wayne was my wife’s and I first date. Great night in NYC.

First track from their first album and also a person who has passed. RIP - a very talented songwriter.

As many have already opined, there are sooooo many choices.

I came here to post an Elliott Smith song. Even after seeing @Mo_Bandy posted one and our hostess with the mostest discuss him, I feel he is so underappreciated. And I live that Zevon has been recognized as well, Prince, Croce, Chapin, Cash, Lightfoot, Jimi and on..
Tom Petty deserves love, as does Michael Hutchence and INXS and many more.

I decided to give my love to a man and his band that might not get it otherwise with a very appropriate song

Day 20: A song by an artist no longer alive

There were really only 3 choices for me here. I chose the loss of an artist that was the first time I actually cried over the loss of someone famous that I’d never even met. Then the struggle was which song, so I went with where it all began for me, the first song of theirs I heard.

Cracking tune. Played this for the kids during last day of term. Fuck shitey Xmas tunes.... lol

Ps. Didn't realise Chester was buddies with Chris Cornell. Tragic that both ended their lives in similar fashion within months of each other.... 😥
