New Milestones Thread

Two milestones for me in about 24 hours: I got my 300th follower today, and my one-year Lit publishing anniversary is tomorrow.
When I started a year ago, I was only going to keep going until one of my stories got the red H.
Uh huh.
44 stories, one how-to guide and three poems later…
I “only” have 25 of 48 works with the H. Now I think it’s funny: I wouldn’t sit down and spend time writing a story if I didn’t think it was hot.
All of my stories have at least one very lovely, very naked lady, and many have some very hot naked sex.
I try to mix in intelligence and romance into all of the sexiness; I’m admittedly not always successful.

"I do not think that means what you think it means." Is the first quote that comes to my mind when thinking about the red H we all seem to covet. My first impression was that there was some super secret group of elite auditors that read every story determining on the quality of the hot steamy sex content. If it was salacious enough, you got the H. Yeah, nope...
All it actually means is you got a 4.5 or better vote score.

Audit procedure: The audit team ("Audit Team") reads the story ("Story"). If an orgy results, the Audit Team will report this to the site owner ("Site Owner"), describing the findings and expressing an opinion that the Story is "hot" ("H").

I hit 500 comments on No Place to Go! For a while, it was a race between that and At the End of the Tour, even though Tour came out a few months earlier. People haaaaaated the wife in No Place to Go, though, which I get. :D I wrote her, after all.

Lies.

The red "H" is @Jackie.Hikaru 's personal stamp of approval. If she likes it, she stamps it. Technically it's the Hikaru seal dating from the early Meji dynasty, but she can't be holding with any of that old claptrap so she's repurposed it for something better.

That's entirely apocryphal, and can in fact be traced back to a BBC April Fool's Day hoax from the 1960s. Records show the existence of "Hot" audits, complete with descriptions of the procedure, going back as far as the East India Company.

My calendar year sales, December 2022 - November 2023, hit 600 on Thursday last month. It is not great, but that's only Smashwords; it doesn't count the sources through them nor the ones for Amazon or BookApy. It's my biggest year since my first year there, 2013, when I self-published my work.
Well done Millie 😊

So you're implying that the entire Pirates of the Caribbean franchise had more to do with the free people's ability to produce fetish porn than it did gold and treasure?

Pish. Drivel. You're basing your entire stance on the writings of a Syphillis-mad count and his LARPing with Lord Penistone. I, however, went and actually VISITED Edo Castle, and the wife of the daughter of the mistress of the second waterwoman showed me the edict from 1077 that established the Hikaru measure.

So there! *flounce*

I agree. I originally thought only an elite group of seasoned writers got the H. Now I shrug it off. It’s nice to see, but only about 1 of 10 readers actually votes.

I seem to have attracted my first personal troll. Over the past few days, several of my stories have lost their red Hs - more than you'd expect from the occasional reader dropping a 1.

I think that makes me a Level 2 Lit Author.

Great. Now I have an idea for another story. 🙄

Gold and treasure are often a by-product of porn. If you're doing it right, at least.

Nonsense. While the modern "red H" symbol does in fact resemble the Hikaru measure, that's purely coincidental. The syphillis-mad count was a foreigner, so his opinion can easily be dismissed. But we do know that Lord Penistone visited Edo Castle in the 18th century, and saw the same edict. Penistone copied the Hikaru design when he became an Auditor in 1786 because of the resemblance to the letter "H", to look more impressive than the handwritten "H" mark that had been used previously.

Dented fingers are nothing compared to dozens on keyboards stripped of their letters.
