New Milestones Thread

Just had someone read one of my stories and give me a full literary breakdown of every element I put into the story in a way that told me, "She absolutely understood what I wrote."

This story is an anomaly to me. I first posted it here in Loving Wives, where it crashed and burned, as expected. But I've sent it to various other places and given it to people to read elsewhere and every single time people come back with exclamations of having really enjoyed the story.

And each time that happens, I'm a little taken aback, because I never expect it.

So this milestone is a personal one: I didn't insult myself or my story in response, I just accepted the praise. Albeit with the caveat of "I never expect people to actually like this story."

But, still, progress is progress. So here's to maybe hopefully just accepting the praise the next time I get it without needing to qualify my response at all.

Earlier today I completed and submitted my first real story (besides a 750-worder) for three and a half months.

That might not seem significant to people who only publish a few stories a year, and it might seem like a weird flex to people who publish every week, but for me it feels like turning a corner. It's like I've rediscovered something that I'd lost all that time.

It’s the little wins that matter in writing. I totally get where you’re coming from.

After publishing Peta/Sam last year and thinking I was one and done, I have just entered a stand alone story in that universe for the valentines day contest.

So there’s my milestone - I have written and submitted my second story to Lit. Hopefully published soon.

And that, like you, was leaving it for a bit to then write something new.

Well done!

Been there. Last year I published 170,000 words (8 stories) between Jan and July, then a single 12,000 word story in December. Between July 14th and December 12th I published zero stories. It really knocks your confidence - I hear you. Well done for getting back on the muse.

I second that. The muse comes and goes. I didn't publish a single story in 2025. It's a new year and I'm shrugging off the old and making plans for the new.

Talk about confusing the fuck out of someone. I open New Milestones from my Alerts, and see this.
