Am I the only one here who doesn't GAF if the pictures were fake or stories exaggerated? I mean it would be an entirely different story if real feelings got involved or if they asked people for expensive gifts, but as far as I know, that wasn't the case, right? She was fun and did not seem like an unkind person.
Many of us use pics that clearly aren't us. This may shock you all, but I'm not actually a kitten who knows how to type. I wouldn't put real, current pics of my face here on the forums for security reasons, but some of you have seen my "Pics from our Youth" or "AI Mirror pics," and a very few people in this thread have seen real, current pics of me via PM or Skype. Only 3 people on all of Lit have have seen my face in live video chat, none of them being S&S regulars. If the rest of you don't care what I look like, why care what she looks like?
Clearly I don't speak for everyone, but if she wanted to come back without the pics, I'd welcome her back

This was a post she made Friday at 6:00 . I agree with what you’re saying @Kitty_so_frisky we all aren’t 100 percent honest here . I think the thing that bothers most people in these cases is that you don’t have to lie to be liked here or in the real world . In her case she didn’t just white lie a little she created a whole world about herself . For some here Lying feels like manipulation or being controlled . It’s a Knee jerk reaction to be angry cause for some of us we have been lied to and manipulated before…. By the time we realized the lie we were invested and it hurts to be lied to regardless how insignificant the lie is .

She lied because she lives in fear and sought to control the narrative of her life

And that's your right, certainly.

Now, look. I'm not about to speak for everyone else. But for me it's about two issues.

1) The exaggerated stories. I come here to interact with real people. Not the character they have invented to play on the interwebs for popularity or to manipulate. I have no use for people that can't or won't be themselves, it's not what I'm interested in on a social platform.

And sure, you learn to take everything with a grain of salt. We only see what people choose to show us of themselves here. Particularly over a shorter interaction that means we each have inordinate control over how we appear. The flaws and cracks only show if you let them.

But that's different than just staight fibbing, for the sake of fibbing.

I had marriedexec on my suss list already, less for being a fraud than for just entirely un-genuine. She came across fake as fuck. Some people are just like that (see a certain former president of the United States).

This is a me thing. Your mileage may vary.

2) The pics. Nope, this is unforgivable. AVs are one thing, mine isn't me either, obviously. But to post a linked pic and claim it's you when it isn't? Not only is that shady and manipulative as all hell, it also means you stole somebody else's pics to do it! And that's a violation of that other person in every way.

Post any pic you'd like if you have permission/ownership and you're clear it's not you. But to claim somebody else's pics as your own is just a HUGE red flag.

It isn’t the pictures that are the issue. There are many people that choose not to share pictures of themselves or their voice and that is totally up to them. The problem is when people make up a whole world of lies to make themselves a person that they really aren’t. Some of them can appear really friendly and caring, others make up stuff about overcoming difficulties in life or major illnesses. They draw people in and build friendships on these lies. People share their own experiences with them, open up, show their vulnerabilities. When they find out that person was just fake, it hurts. There have been a couple of people who have faked their own death and had people who actually had feelings for them, had cared for them, shared so much with them, grieve for them.

It is the deception that is the issue.

There was no context in that post, but recently pictures posted were with some kind of rifle, and that's how I interpreted that post. I could be wrong.

For us old timers, we’ve seen this scenario too many times times.

My forum life didn't start on September 18th this year. I had a previous Lit account 5 years ago, and have been on numerous other forums since the late 90s. I've seen it before too, I was just saying she seemed fun despite the pics.

Valid points, as was the 1 brought to my attention via PM about possibly faking cancer I thought that part had a ring of truth to it, but apparently others who discussed it more in-depth disagree.

She made it very clear that her AV was her, and gave a long detailed story about having it taken after a battle with breast cancer and dealing with body dysmorphia. Do you not see how damaging that is to 1. The people she is stealing pics from, 2. Those who have battled this disease, 3. Those with body image issues, and 4. Any one who opened themselves up to being her friend? She also bragged about every aspect of her life. I am still hopeful that there was some truth to her posts and it was not all made up, because... who does that?

If one exaggerates in a way that it's clear from the start it's not all true, and one can only wonder if any of it is true, and if it's also fun, people can usually accept that. People may even understand minor deviations to make yourself more unrecognisable (though it's better to just leave it vague). But pretending it to be all true when none of it is... Nope.

Yeah, as I said earlier, I thought there was a ring of truth to the cancer part, but others who have had more interactions with her disagree. The rest is also valid.
